Death Throes. When Astaroth is banished, he explodes, and each creature within 30 feet of him must make a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw, taking 70 (20d6) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The explosion ignites flammable objects in that area that aren’t being worn or carried.
Fire Aura. At the start of each of Astaroth’s turns, each creature within 5 feet of him takes 10 (3d6) fire damage, and flammable objects in the aura that aren’t being worn or carried ignite. A creature that touches Astaroth or hits him with a melee attack while within 5 feet of him takes 10 (3d6) fire damage.
Magic Resistance. Astaroth has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Magic Weapons. Astaroth’s weapon attacks are magical.
Multiattack. Astaroth makes two attacks: one with its longsword and one with its whip.
Longsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d8 + 8) slashing damage plus 13 (2d8) lightning damage. If Astaroth scores a critical hit, he rolls damage dice three times, instead of twice.
Whip. Melee Weapon Attack: +14 to hit, reach 30 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d6 + 8) slashing damage plus 10 (3d6) fire damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 20 Strength saving throw or be pulled up to 25 feet toward Astaroth.
Teleport. Astaroth magically teleports, along with any equipment it is wearing or carrying, up to 120 feet to an unoccupied space he can see.
Description
The fallen demon lord Astaroth does all that he can to restore himself to his former power. His injuries greatly reduced his strength, health, and agility, but his wisdom and treachery has grown ten-fold. He plots to escape his runic prison. He was imprisoned by Asmodeus after he had launched a major invasion on the nine hells. In this invasion, he successfully took over the entire level of Avernus. He is the only demon lord to have ever had this much success. Unfortunately, he lost. He was struck down by Asmodeus and imprisoned in a golden tablet. Asmodeus purposefully created a simple way for him to be released, as it was the other demon lord's betrayal that brought the downfall of Astaroth. Asmodeus hopes that one day, an unsuspecting mortal will release Astaroth on the material plane. He will wreak havoc before launching a mass invasion on the abyss itself, perhaps ending the blood war forever.
