Prerequisite: The blood crystal dragon must have at least one unused spell slot of 1st level or higher.

The shield has hit points equal to twice the level of the spell slot expended, and it has a hardness of 10. While the shield is active, the blood crystal dragon gains a +2 bonus to its AC. Additionally, the shield grants resistance to one damage type of the blood crystal dragon's choice, which is determined when the shield is created.
If the shield is destroyed before the duration expires, the blood crystal dragon takes psychic damage equal to the level of the spell slot expended. If the blood crystal dragon is reduced to 0 hit points while the shield is active, the shield explodes, dealing 6d6 force damage to all creatures within 20 feet of the dragon.

Description
Appearance: A blood crystal dragon is a large, winged creature, covered in shimmering scales that sparkle like diamonds in the sunlight. Its body is sleek and muscular, with razor-sharp claws and a long, powerful tail. The dragon's most notable feature is its blood-red crystal-like spikes that protrude from its back, wings, and tail
Elemental Affinity: The blood crystal dragon has an affinity for the element of blood, which it can manipulate and control to its advantage. It can create illusions with its blood magic, heal itself or others by drawing on the life force of nearby creatures, or use its powers to drain its enemies of their vitality.
Behavior: Blood crystal dragons are solitary creatures that prefer to live in isolated areas like mountains or deep forests. They are fiercely territorial and will defend their territory from any perceived threat. They are intelligent and cunning creatures that will use their blood magic to outsmart their enemies.
Combat: In combat, blood crystal dragons are formidable foes. They can fly at high speeds, use their sharp claws and teeth to tear through armor, and their blood magic to confuse or weaken their opponents. Their blood-red crystal-like spikes can also be used as weapons, launching them at their enemies with deadly precision.
Weaknesses: Despite their impressive powers and abilities, blood crystal dragons are vulnerable to attacks that target their crystal-like spikes. If these spikes are damaged or destroyed, the dragon's blood magic will weaken, and it will become more vulnerable to physical attacks.
Lair and Lair Actions
Crystalline Walls: The walls of the dragon's cavern are made of shimmering blood crystals. These crystals have a hardness of 20 and can be used as cover in combat. The dragon can pass through the walls as if they were not there.
Blood Crystal Growth: The dragon's presence causes the growth of blood crystals in the cavern. These crystals can be harvested and used for magical purposes. Any spell that the dragon casts within its lair that deals damage to a creature has a chance to create a blood crystal growth.
Cave Ins: The cavern is unstable and prone to cave-ins. The dragon can use its lair actions to trigger a cave-in that deals damage to all creatures within the area.
