Water Breathing. The Ancient Carp can breathe only underwater.
Swallow Whole: The Ancient Carp attempts to swallow a large or smaller creature within 5ft of it. The target must succeed on a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw or be swallowed by the carp. A swallowed creature is Blinded and Restrained, has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the carp, and takes 21(6d6) acid damage at the start of each of the Ancient Carp's turns.
If the Ancient Carp takes 20 or more damage on a single turn from a swallowed creature, it must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or regurgitate all swallowed creatures, which fall Prone in an unoccupied space within 10ft of the carp. If the carp dies, a swallowed creature is no longer Restrained and can escape the corpse using 15ft of movement, exiting Prone.
Tail: Melee weapon attack, +9 to hit, reach 10ft, one target. Hit 24(4d8+6) bludgeoning damage.
Description
It takes a particular combination of events to create the massive Ancient Carp. A large body of water with a steady supply of food, a lack of predators, and most importantly centuries to grow. Rarely found near humans, as it would have been caught long before it reached its truly gargantuan size. However, sometimes adventurers find a long-lost lake somewhere above ground or in the deep caverns of Rhymorra, or a lack of fish in the usual water sources has forced fishermen to look to other forsaken places to make their living. Unfortunately, the Ancient Carp requires a great amount of food and will swallow whole anything smaller than itself, leading to people going missing. The Misty Pond is such an example of a long-lost lake that is rumored to be somewhere deep within the mountains of Rhymorra. However, do not mistake the Great Lake for a place to find an Ancient Carp; you will find their bones and by the time you see them, something far larger will see you.
Sacred Beasts. In some areas of Rhymorra, the carp are specifically tended to, particularly by royalty or priesthood. Though the beast is largely too stupid to train properly, regular food does tend to train it to recognize its handlers and keep the waters safe. At least, for a time. Though should it miss a feeding, the carp will not hesitate to eat the hand that feeds it, then the arm, then the whole body.
