Archivist

The Archivist is the immortal sentinel of the Planar Archive. It looks kind of like a humanoid, but with a weird, almost toad-looking head and scaly skin. It also has four insect legs coming out of its back, which it uses to climb the very tall shelves of the Archive.

The Archivist lives in the Planar Archive, a great library that holds balls of light containing information, called Memory Stones. While in the Archive, a creature can use an action to unlock a Memory Stone, gaining the information inside. The Archivist can control the innate magic that permeates the Archive, giving rise to lair actions.

Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the Archivist takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the Archivist can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

• The Archivist creates a storm of psychic energy in the Archive. Every creature within a 50-ft. sphere must succeed on a Charisma saving throw or take 12d12 psychic damage.
• The Archivist teleports to one place in the Archive, up to 120 ft. away.

Regional Effects

The Archive is in a paradoxical bond with the Archivist, which creates one or more of the following effects:

• The Archivist can see what goes on anywhere in the Archive, at any time.
• Randomly, memory stones might fly off the shelves, hitting any creatures in range, excluding the Archivist. Those creatures take 2d20 bludgeoning damage plus 1d10 radiant damage.

If the Archivist dies, these effects stop immediately.
