Toxic Blood. As a special trait, any slashing damage against the Purple Dragon that penetrates its natural armor will unleash a toxic cloud. Any adventurers within 75 ft. of the dragon must make a constitution saving throw. Upon a failed throw, any inflicted adventurers take 2d6+3 damage and are poisoned for 5 minutes.
Multi-attack. The dragon can use its Frightful Presence. It then makes three attacks: one with its bite, one with its claws, and one with its wings.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d10 + 6) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) poison damage.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d6 + 6) slashing damage.
Wing Beat. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d8 + 6) bludgeoning damage.
Frightful Presence. Each creature of the dragon's choice that is within 120 feet of the dragon and aware of it must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the dragon's Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.
Poison Breath (Recharge 5–6). The dragon exhales poisonous gas in a 60-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw, taking 56 (16d6) poison damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Description
Purple Dragons have thin, transparent scales that can be colored anything from a deep violet to a bright lavender. They are easily agitated and will fight to the death with cunning tactics when threatened. Purple Dragons often have feuds with Black Dragons over territorial struggles.
Lair and Lair Actions
The Purple Dragon usually makes its home in humid, toxic swamps. The swamps of Purple Dragons often contain a purple-tinted haze that makes it difficult to see and breath.
Lair Actions
On initiative count 4 (losing initiative ties), the Purple Dragon takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the Purple Dragon can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:
- As a lair action, the Purple Dragon can summon geysers of toxic sludge that poison any adventurers that come near them for two minutes.
- As a lair action, the Purple Dragon can expel a toxic haze. If within 150 ft. of the dragon, the adventurers must make a constitution saving throw. Upon a failed throw, any inflicted adventurers take 1d6+3 damage and are poisoned for three minutes.
Regional Effects
The region containing a legendary Purple Dragon’s lair is often toxic and hazy, which creates one or more of the following effects:
- As a regional effect, any adventurers within a Purple Dragon's lair must make a constitution saving throw. Upon a failed throw, any inflicted adventurers take 1d4 damage every three turns due to the toxic haze.
If the Purple Dragon dies, these effects fade over the course of 2d6 days.
