Amphibious. The axolotl can breathe air and water.

Water Form. The axolotl can take on a watery form for up to 1 minute. During this time, the axolotl movement speed is double while in water and can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch in wide without squeezing. While in this form, the axolotl's bite attack deals cold damage

Gecko Climb. Much like a gecko, a water axolotl’s feet allow it to climb virtually any surface, no matter how slick or sheer. The axolotl can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check

Mischievous. If bonded as a familiar through any source, grants all of the abilities inherent to the source of the bond (e.g. Find Familiar spell), with the following caveat: axolotls are mischievous and fun-loving. There is a 20% chance that when given a command they will do something else that it considers more fun, at the DM's discretion. As examples, it could complete the requested goal with flair instead of stealth, or it could get distracted and do something wildly different and not complete the command at all.

Description

The water axolotl is a tiny water elemental. While on the Material Plane they take a material form, unable to maintain their elemental water form for long. Their material form changes subtly each time they're seen, only approximating the appearance and physical characteristics of an axolotl.

Water axolotls came into being when a noble genie Marid heard a description of Material Plane axolotls from a wandering wizard. The Marid experimented with tiny elementals for his own amusement, in the end creating something like a hybrid between an axolotl and a gecko. They are typically brightly colored, but can dull and darken their colors when called for, such as when they are trying to avoid attention.

Water axolotls are intelligent for their size, mischievous, fun-loving, and somewhat difficult to control. Marid love a good story, so a warlock in a pact with a Marid genie who casts Find Familiar may well find themselves bonded to a water axolotl instead of the familiar they were hoping for.
