Legendary Actions

The Birdidon can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn.

Peck: The Birdidon makes one beak attack.

Wing Gust: The Birdidon flaps its wings, creating a powerful gust of wind. Each creature within 15 feet must succeed on a DC 17 Strength saving throw or be pushed 10 feet away from the Birdidon and knocked prone.

Shadow Veil: The Birdidon conjures an area of darkness centered on itself, heavily obscuring the area in a 30-foot radius. The darkness lasts until the start of the Birdidon's next turn.

Description

The Birdidion is an ancient and terrible evil from the Dread Realm of Thredony. Monstrous in size; not much is known about the creature, except that every 100 years it awakens from its slumber to sing its Low Song, spreading dread and misfortune throughout the realm.

Those who have survived encounters with the Birdidion have been driven mad, muttering to themselves about hundreds of toothy maws beneath its foul wings. Some have said to have glimpsed it in flight, trailing an inky swatch of pitch behind its shadowed form.

Lair and Lair Actions

Lair:

Beneath the towering peak of Mt. Bellicoso lies the hidden subterranean lair of the Birdidon. The entrance to this formidable sanctuary is concealed within a labyrinthine network of ancient tunnels within the heart of the mountain.

As one delves deeper into the lair, the air grows thick with an otherworldly dread and chill; the sounds of dripping water echo through the passages. The walls are adorned with eerie phosphorescent fungi, casting an ethereal glow that dances upon the jagged stone surfaces.

The lair itself is an expansive chamber, vast and cavernous. A ceiling adorned with stalactites looms overhead, resembling jagged fangs hanging from the mouth of some ancient beast. The floor is a treacherous expanse, uneven and littered with scattered bones of unfortunate souls who dared to attempt to slay the Birdidon in its domain.

Throughout the lair, one can find remnants of its terrifying presence. Feathered remnants of its molted plumage are scattered about, their ebony hue contrasting against the pale stone floor. Sinister runes, etched into the walls with an unknown script, seem to pulsate with ominous energy.

A network of colossal nests rests against the cavern walls, their structures woven with enormous skeletal remains and woven with strands of shadowy tendrils. These nests serve as the Birdidon's roosts, where it retreats to rest between its wakeful cycles. Many contain cyclopean eggs, each containing a future horror waiting to awaken.

The air within the lair carries a palpable sense of unease as if the very atmosphere is tainted by the Birdidon's malevolent presence. It is said that the faint songs of tormented souls can be heard in the distant echoes, a haunting reminder of the Birdidon's power to evoke despair.

In the deepest recesses of the lair, a massive stone pedestal stands, adorned with macabre artifacts and relics. It is rumored to hold the source of the Birdidon's power, an ancient artifact known as the Timbrestone. This pulsating gemstone is said to be imbued with the essence of the Low Song itself.

To traverse the subterranean lair beneath Mt. Bellicoso is to venture into a realm of darkness and terror. Few dare to tread its treacherous paths, for it is a place where nightmares take form and the Birdidon's power reigns supreme, ever ready to unleash its low and terrible song upon any who would dare challenge its dominion.

Lair Actions:

While the Birdidon is in its lair it can take lair actions as long as it isn't incapacitated.

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the Birdidon can take a lair action to harness the power of its Dread Domain. The following lair actions can be chosen:

Dreadful Shriek: The Birdidon emits a bone-chilling shriek that echoes throughout its lair. Each creature of its choice within 60 feet must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or be stunned until the end of its next turn.

Nightmarish Winds: The Birdidon stirs up gusts of nightmarish winds, causing disorientation and confusion. Each creature within 30 feet of the Birdidon must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or have disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks until the end of its next turn.

Maws of Despair: The Birdidon opens its toothy maws wide, causing the ground beneath to crack and tremble. Each creature on the ground within 30 feet of the Birdidon must succeed on a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw or be restrained by spectral jaws until the start of its next turn.

Note: These lair actions are designed to complement the Birdidon's abilities and create a dynamic and challenging encounter within its dread domain. Feel free to modify or adjust them to suit the needs and balance of your campaign.
