Hold Breath. The Ancient Hydra can hold its breath for 1 hour.

Multiple Heads. The Ancient Hydra has eight heads. While it has more than one head, it has advantage on saving throws against being Blinded, Charmed, Deafened, Frightened, Stunned, and knocked Unconscious.

Whenever the Ancient Hydra takes 25 or more damage on a single turn, one of its heads die. If all of its heads die, the Ancient Hydra dies.

At the end of its turns, it grows two heads for each of its heads that died since its last turn, unless it has taken fire damage since its last turn. The Ancient Hydra regains 20 hit points for each head regrown in this way.

Reactive Heads. For each head the Ancient Hydra has beyond one, it gets an extra reaction that can only be used for opportunity attacks.

Wakeful. While the Ancient Hydra sleeps, at least one of its heads is awake.

Actions

Multiattack: The hydra makes as many Bite attacks as it has heads.

Bite: Melee weapon attack, +11 to hit, reach 10ft, one target. Hit 17(2d10+6) piercing damage.

Description

Ancient Hydras are old hydras that slumber in various places in Rhymorra. Their wisdom when it comes to other hydras is unparalleled, but their intelligence levels remain the same. Some might think an Ancient Hydra is just as powerful, if not more so, than the monstrous Behidra, and those would be wrong. An Ancient Hydra's hide has grown brittle with age as well as its muscular density. Although they are much larger than the normal hydra, Ancient Hydras aren't as powerful as the Behidra. This was proven when a Behidra was observed waking up and fighting two Ancient Hydras and winning. Ancient Hydras are just old Hydras, nothing more.

Some foolhardy adventurers try to persuade Ancient Hydras to share their wisdom by telepathically or magically communicating with them. Ancient Hydras are reluctant in doing so, but those that do act as mentors to adventurers as they share their wisdom in what they know, specifically combat against other creatures and Hydras. These trained adventurers become masters of the hunt and are renowned throughout all of Rhymorra, all thanks to an old Hydra.
