Innate Spellcasting. The hag's spellcasting ability is Charisma (+8 to spell attacks, spell save DC 16). She can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
At will: bane, darkness, dissonant whispers, inflict wounds
3/day each: blindness/deafness, invisibility (self only), suggestion
1/day each: animate dead, dispel magic, summon undead, vampiric touch
Magic Resistance. The hag has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Necromantic Nature. A bone hag doesn't need sleep, and she can go up to 8 weeks without food.
Shared Spellcasting (Coven Only). A bone hag that is part of a coven has a challenge rating of 12 (8,400 XP). While all three members of a hag coven are within 30 feet of one another, they can each cast the following spells from the wizard's spell list (+7 to spell attacks, save DC 15), but must share the spell slots among themselves:
1st level (4 slots): cause fear, detect magic, fog cloud, witch bolt
2nd level (3 slots): crown of madness, hold person, misty step
3rd level (3 slots): bestow curse, counterspell, hypnotic pattern
4th level (3 slots): blight, vitriolic sphere
5th level (2 slots): danse macabre, negative energy flood
6th level (1 slot): eyebite
7th level (1 slot): finger of death
8th level (1 slot): Abi-Dalzim's horrid wilting
Multiattack. The hag makes one Bony Staff attack and uses her Necrotic Gaze.
Bony Staff. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (3d8 + 5) bludgeoning damage, plus 7 (2d6) necrotic damage.
Necrotic Gaze. The hag targets a point within 60 feet. Each creature within 10 feet of this point must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or take 21 (6d6) necrotic damage and be stunned until the end of the hag's next turn as the area is filled with undead energy. Creatures that succeed on the saving throw take half damage and aren't stunned. Undead creatures in the area regain 10 (3d6) hit points and take no damage.
Command Undead. When an undead under the hag's command within 30 feet of her is missed with an attack, the hag can command that undead to immediately make an attack against a creature within 5 feet of it.
Description
The hut was empty and silent, aside from the scratching of rat claws against cage bars and the distant cawing of a crow. Still, it looked like something lived there, with decaying remnants of food scattered across the floor and a distinct, strange collection of bones that were seemingly arranged randomly. A scratchy voice broke through the silence. “Oh, my dearies. We have an intruder.”
Obsessed with death. Bone hags are a distant relative of the bheur and night hags who have taken a particular interest in death. Their dark magic and dabbling in necromancy has allowed them to raise the dead to fight for them, but most bone hags use their skeletal or zombified servants to do simple jobs or to guard their homes. Bone hags live near settlements, but keep their living space separated from humanoids through natural barricades such as rocky cliffs, brambles, or deep running water. Their proximity is for one reason only: to help themselves to whatever they desire in the settlement’s graveyard, and to feed off the pain and suffering of those who lost a friend, family member, or pet.
Bone hag coven. Bone hags rarely convene to form a coven, but their presence is detrimental for the surrounding area. Because each hag in a bone hag coven continues her own cursed necromantic practising, any plant or animal life near a bone hag coven quickly turns undead or cursed. Plants wither, animals die and are revived as undead, zombies appear in the local graveyards and pests of locusts, birds and rats plague the nearby towns. Large, aggressive plants unroot from the ground and haunt forests, and the waters become infested with sharp-toothed fish and rotting diseases. Ghostly faces appear in the mist, and those who venture too close to the hags’ home risk becoming an undead servant themselves.
