1/day: Double Take

Actions

Multiattack: The Ahuizotl can make two fist attacks and one with its tail, or cast Beguiling Replica and use Cunning Step as a bonus action.

Fist: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 20 (3d8+7) bludgeoning damage

Tail: +11 to hit, reach 10ft., one target Hit: 16 (3d6+7) bludgeoning damage. The creature must succeed on a DC 20 Strength saving throw or be grappled.

Strangle: The Ahuizotl can spend its action constricting whatever creature it has grappled, dealing 16 (3d6+7) bludgeoning damage. If the creature is underwater, it is now considered drowning.

Beguiling Replica (Recharge 5-6): The Ahuizotl creates an identical clone illusion of itself requiring no material components. The illusion is tangible and exactly identical to the Ahuizotl's appearance the instant it was created. The illusion has its own initiative, has an armor class of 16, and has one hit point. Each clone can make two fist attacks on its turn and can move its full movement. The original Ahuizotl can spend an action to dismiss one or all of its clones.

Reactions

Cunning Step: The Ahuizotl can use its reaction to frenetically swap places with a target illusion it controls before damage is dealt. The illusion takes the damage instead. If the Ahuizotl has a creature grappled, the grappled creature teleports with the Ahuizotl.

Double TakeThe form of the Ahuizotl splits into two different directions, immediately casting Beguiling Replica without requiring a charge. The attacker must make a WIS saving throw (DC: 15). On a failed save, the attacker misses both the Ahuizotl and its illusion. On success,  the attacker hits the illusion. The Ahuizotl, and its new clone then can move its full movement without provoking attacks of opportunity, or cast Cunning Step immediately.

Description

An Ahuizotl is about seven feet tall from shoulder to palm, and fifteen feet long. It resembles an enormous dark purple panther. Its front paws are reminiscent of a gorilla's forearms, muscled and powerful and ending in gigantic strong hands. The tail is equally strong, but not at heavy. The tip of the tail has a large grasping four fingered hand. Its face is almost identical to a panthers, but the snout holds much longer, ape like teeth, with ridges along the bridge of its large nose. Ahuizotls are trickster creatures who love to toy with mortals. Answering riddles and other such activities will keep the beast entertained, but entertaining the Ahuizotl never really ensures safe travel. To sincerely guarantee safe passage through the beast's river, you must surprise it. This can be with a joke, or something the beast hasn't never heard of before. If you impress the creature well enough, you will have yourself a very loyal ally. Bore him however, and your final moments will be spent as a bloody yarnball.
