Traits

Incorporeal Movement. Beátrice can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. She takes 5 (1d10) force damage if she ends her turn inside an object.

Sunlight Sensitivity. While in sunlight, Beátrice has disadvantage on attack rolls, as well as on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.

Invisibility. Beátrice can turn invisible at will.

Actions

Forceful Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 13 (4d6) force damage.

Archivist's Gaze. One creature that Beátrice can see within 60 feet of her must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is paralyzed. At the end of each of its turns, the target can make another Constitution saving throw. On a success, the spell ends on the target.

Dermographer. While a creature is paralyzed, Beátrice can use her action to inscribe the creature's skin with its life story. The target creature must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw. If the target creature succeeds, nothing happens. If it fails, script starts showing up throughout its entire body and it takes damage, depending on by how much the target creature failed.

The scripture disappears from a creature's skin upon finishing a long rest.

Extract Entry. While a creature carries scripture from Dermographer, Beátrice can flail pages from that creature's skin. A target creature must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw, or take (4d4) slashing damage, as skin falls off their body like parchment.

Telekinetic Thrust. Beátrice targets a creature or unattended object within 30 feet of her. A creature must be Medium or smaller to be affected by this magic, and an object can weigh up to 150 pounds.

If the target is a creature, Beátrice makes a Charisma check contested by the target’s Strength check. If Beátrice wins the contest, she hurls the target up to 30 feet in any direction, including upward. If the target then comes into contact with a hard surface or heavy object, the target takes 1d6 damage per 10 feet moved.

If the target is an object that isn’t being worn or carried, Beátrice hurls it up to 30 feet in any direction. She can use the object as a ranged weapon, attacking one creature along the object’s path (+5 to hit) and dealing 7 (3d4) bludgeoning damage on a hit.

Lair and Lair Actions

Blackheart's Archive

When bound to Salem's archive, Beátrice learned to adapt to her role as its archivist quickly. The books, some self-written by Salem Blackheart himself, others penned by different authors and then hand-curated, became an extension of Beátrice's existence. In a sense, she became the archive itself.

The challenge rating of Beátrice, the Archivist increases by 1 when she’s encountered in her lair.

Lair Actions

On initiative count 1 (losing initiative ties), Beátrice, the Archivist, can take one of the following lair actions; Beátrice can’t take the same lair action two rounds in a row:

• Beátrice conjures up a whirlwind of paper that fills a 40-foot-high, 10-foot-radius cylinder centered on a point she can see within 60 feet of her. The paper whirlwind lasts until initiative count 1 on the next round. Creatures and objects within and on opposing ends of the paper whirlwind are heavily obscured. A creature that enters the paper whirlwind for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there takes (2d4) slashing damage.

• Any creature Beátrice can see within 60 feet of her must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, Beátrice creates an illusory object, creature, or other visible phenomenon of her choice that is no larger than a 10-foot cube and that is perceivable only to the targets until initiative count 1 on the next round. The illusion includes sound, temperature, and other stimuli, also evident only to the targets. While the targets are affected by the illusion, they treat the illusion as if it were real. The targets rationalize any illogical outcomes from interacting with the illusion. For example, a target attempting to walk across an illusory bridge that spans a chasm falls once it steps onto the bridge. If the target survives the fall, it still believes that the bridge exists and comes up with some other explanation for its fall - it was pushed, it slipped, or a strong wind might have knocked it off. An affected target is so convinced of the phantasm’s reality that it can even take damage from the illusion. An illusion created to appear as a creature can attack the target. Similarly, an illusion created to appear as fire, a pool of acid, or lava can burn the target. This way, the illusion can deal (2d4) psychic damage to the target if it is in the illusions’s area or within 5 feet of the illusion, provided that the illusion is of a creature or hazard that could logically deal damage, such as by attacking. The target perceives the damage as a type appropriate to the illusion.

• Beátrice targets up to three creatures that she can see within 60 feet of her. Each target must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be flung up to 30 feet through the air. A creature that strikes a solid object or is released midair takes (1d6) bludgeoning damage for every 10 feet moved or fallen.
