Dive Attack. If the garkain is flying and dives at least 30 feet toward a target and then hits with a bite attack, the attack deals an extra 10 (3d6) damage to the target.
Rancid Stench. Any creature that starts its turn within 5 feet of the garkain must succeed on a DC 11 Constitution saving throw or take 9 (2d8) poison damage and is poisoned until the start of its next turn. On a successful saving throw, the creature takes half damage and is immune to the garkain's Rancid Stench for 24 hours.
Flyby. The garkain doesn’t provoke an opportunity attack when it flies out of an enemy’s reach.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 10 ft., one creature. Hit: 13 (3d6 + 3) piercing damage plus 5 (1d10) necrotic damage.
A humanoid slain by this attack rises 24 hours later as a specter, unless the humanoid is restored to life or its body is destroyed.
Description
Garkains are large flying bat like creatures originally from the Shadowfell that haunt jungles.
Hungry Hunters. Garkains hunt at night in small packs of four or five, launching themselves from the tops of trees on top of unsuspecting creatures. They then suffocate their victims in the folds of their leathery wings. They then go into a feeding frenzy, ripping apart the body. Their necrotic infused mouths incidentally rip the soul out of the body, leaving the soul to wander the jungle looking for its final resting place.
Stalkers of Undead Jungles. Garkain come from the large jungles of the Shadowfell. Dead trees tower upwards, the ground makes a mockery of what was once a thriving ecosystem. Natives to the Shadowfell and reanimated corpses stalk the forest floor. From above, garkains make horrible screeching sounds. Closer expectation of the garkain reveals a large bat body, with large leathery wings. Their bodies are a sickly looking blue, their faces are of a lizard and framed by a red mane.
