Nightlight. When a creature who can sleep and is not immune to magically induced sleep enters within a 60-foot radius of the Blue Sleeper, they'll begin to hear voices encouraging them to sleep or rest, and they must make a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is put to sleep. If they are moved outside the Blue Sleeper's 60-foot radius, the creature awakens if they are damaged or if a nearby creature spends an action to shake them awake. Every minute spent within 60 feet of the Blue Sleeper causes the DC of the saving throw to increase by 1 (per creature) and forces any creatures in the radius to make the saving throw again.
Mindless. The Blue Sleeper has only a very rudimentary brain and cannot be charmed or frightened.
Precision. The Blue Sleeper gains a +6 bonus to attack rolls if an effect or condition (such as Paralysis) on its target is causing the target's movement speed to be 0.
Rudimentary Eyes. The Blue Sleeper can only perceive vague shadows and movement against light backdrops. It cannot discern color, edges, surface details, tastes, or sounds.
Jellyfish Nature. The Blue Sleeper dies if it spends more than 2 minutes out of water, though its tendrils can still sting and cause paralysis for up to 2d4 days after the Blue Sleeper dies.
Tendril. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 15 ft., 2 targets. Hit: 7 (1d10 + 2) Poison damage. When a creature is hit with this attack, they must make a DC 7 Constitution saving throw. On a fail, the creature becomes Paralyzed until the end of their next turn.
Description
Blue Sleepers are a species of jellyfish found in the waters off the southwestern coast of Orion's Hand. They have large, translucent bells and very long tendrils, both of which emit a dim blue bioluminescence. One half of its bell extends much further downward than the other half; why it evolved to have this shape is not currently known.
Their tendrils are full of a potent venom which can cause paralysis, allowing the Blue Sleeper to consume its prey more easily. However, unique to the Blue Sleeper is the chemical it passively releases into the water. It stays potent for quite a while after being released, and as it spreads into the area surrounding the jellyfish, creatures who enter the area become drowsy and eventually fall asleep.
Blue Sleepers don't develop the ability to release this chemical until they reach maturity, when they stop actively hunting. Young Blue Sleepers hunt much more aggressively, and instead of paralyzing, their venom inflicts extreme pain.
