Traits

Keen Hearing and Smell. Akh'sha has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.

Greater Insight. The Akh'sha has the ability to read one's intentions by gazing into their souls, which allows them to always have advantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks. It also understands most languages if spoken to, but cannot communicate back.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d10 + 4) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Sandshift. As a bonus action the Akh'sha runs 10 feet and vanishes, almost immediately reappearing within 60ft. of the place it vanished.

One with the Sands. The Akh'sha is called a sand spirit for a reason. With its howl it can raise 1d6 copies of itself from the sand around it. These copies take the stats of the Akh'sha, its current hit points as their maximum hit points and are limited to using the Bite and Sandshift actions.

Whirling Sands. The Akh'sha digs one of its paws into the sand and howls to the skies. The sand surrounding starts to swirl around it. A 20-foot-radius area around the Akh'sha becomes difficult terrain and the visibility within this area becomes 5 ft. Ranged attacks and attacks used with reach that exceeds 5 ft. can be made only by a creature who has an ability that allows them to not rely on their sight when making attacks such as Blindsight.

Description

Akh'sha, or the spirits of the sand, are desert beasts that resemble dogs. They are very insightful, wise, empathetic and curious creatures. But even though their curiosity might be great, they rarely approach groups of people. But in case of such a meeting, one might expect to get an invaluable guide and companion or the worst possible enemy they ever faced.

This depends on the person and what the Akh'sha sees in them. That's because they possess the ability to see through a person to their very soul. Intention, personality, sins, feelings, nothing is kept a secret from the Akh'sha and they not only see those things, but also feel them. Therefore a person, who recently lost their loved one could expect a friendly embrace, but a person, who might have committed a bad deed, should expect hostility. After these careful evaluations they either approach with a very friendly manner or begin their howls signaling an attack.

Contrary to what their name suggest, the Akh'sha are not actually spirits. They are noble and majestic beasts of the desert. They are formidable fighters and possess magical abilities foreign to many arcane scholars.
