Traits

Extra Limbs. The bearbug has advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks and on Saving Throws against being Grappled and knocked Prone.

Actions

Multiattack. The bearbug makes two claw attacks.

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage.

Thundering Wings (Recharge 5-6). The bearbug emits an ear splitting buzz. Each creature within 20 feet of it that can hear it must make a DC 12 Constitution saving throw, taking 17 (5d6) thunder damage on a failed throw, and half as much damage on a successful one.

Description

The result of a wizard's experimentation gone wrong, the bearbug is an unnatural fusion of bear and insect. Possessing the physical strength of a brown bear and the mental fortitude of a beetle, the bearbug aimlessly wanders through forests and mountains in search of food, attacking anything it comes across. Once it finds a region with suitable amounts of food, the bearbug begins to lay dozens of eggs, quickly infesting the region if left unchecked.

One peculiar trait of the bearbug is its severely limited memory capacity and reasoning skills. It is more likely to attempt to go through a barrier than around it, and when chasing prey it can quickly forget what it was doing once the prey disappears from sight.

Armored Carapace. The bearbug gains a large defensive benefit from its insect-like body. Thick bands of chitin cover the bearbug's back and arms, acting similar to half plate armor. However, the extra weight restricts the bearbug's agility.

Six-legged. Having sprouted an additional two front limbs during its creation, the bearbug is able to remain remarkably stable while performing physical tasks.

Insect Wings. Surprisingly, the set of beetle-like wings on the bearbug's back aren't just for show, and the bearbug is able to fly short distances. Often, when attempting to fly, the bearbug beats its wings so fiercely that it emits a deafening buzz that can be heard up to 200 feet away.
