Traits

Skilled Undead. Unlike typical undead, these creatures have retained some of their skill that they possessed in life. They have more action and reaction options than typical undead, and may even retain certain skills.

Boneforged Body. Boneforged Skeletons take the maximum result for all of their hit die and have +2 Strength, Constitution, and Dexterity.

Skeletal Leadership. These skeletons can command other skeletons, though not through telepathy or verbal communication. Using gestures, they can direct and provide basic leadership to lesser skeletons. Additionally, they can understand such communication from others, undead or otherwise, particularly military command gestures.

Turning Resistance. The boneforged centurion has advantage on saving throws made against any effect that would turn undead.

Critical Immunity. The Boneforged Centurion is immune to critical hits from non-adamantine weapons so long as they are wearing their adamantine half plate.

Phalanx Formation. The Boneforged Centurion has advantage on attack rolls and Dexterity saving throws while standing within 5 feet of an ally wielding a shield.

Action Surge (1/Long Rest). This creature may choose to take one additional action on its turn. This ability can't be used again until this creature takes a long rest.

Chargebreaker. Boneforged Centurions have advantage on all STR, DEX, and CON checks and saves against knockback, being knocked prone, and being stunned.

Bulwark & Defense Style. This creature has the Defense Fighting Style and Bulwark Centurion Training, granting it an additional +2 bonus to AC while wearing armor.

Marching Phalanx. This creature and each ally within 10 feet of it may choose to act at the lowest initiative of any participant of one of these creatures' shield wall features, reducing its initiative to match theirs.

Medium Armor Mastery. The Boneforged Centurion has the Medium Armor Master feat. They do not suffer disadvantage on stealth and have a max DEX mod of +3 in Medium Armor.

Shield Master. The Boneforged Centurion may add their shield's AC bonus (+4) to any Dexterity Saving Throw against any spell or harmful effect that targets only them so long as they are not incapacitated or unconscious.

Magical Adamantine Equipment. The Boneforged Centurion is equipped in improved adamantine equipment, and its weapon attacks are magical. Further, this grants them immunity to critical hits, and all of their weapons, as well as their shield, are adamantine. All attacks made against objects and structures with their adamantine weapons count as critical hits on a successful attack. Additionally, it may still land critical hits against creatures who have critical immunity granted by adamantine armor.

Actions

Multiattack. The Boneforged Centurion makes 2 melee attacks or throws two javelins.

Adamantine Handaxe +2. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft, one target. Hit: 10 (1d6 + 7) slashing damage.

Adamantine Longspear +2. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (1d6 + 7) piercing damage, or 11 (1d8 + 7) piercing damage if used with two hands to make a melee attack.

Adamantine Shield Bash +2. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 8 (1d4 + 7) bludgeoning damage.

Adamantine Tipped Javelin +1 (x6). Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5ft or range 30/120 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (1d6 + 6) piercing damage.

Bonus Actions

Shield Shove. Any time the Boneforged Centurion successfully hits a large or smaller target with their shield bash, they may use a bonus action to make an opposed Strength (Athletics) Check against a large or smaller creature. If the Boneforged Centurion succeeds this check, the target is shoved back 5 feet. If the Boneforged Centurion succeeds this check by 5 or more, the target is pushed back 5 feet and is knocked prone.

Shield Wall. As a bonus action, the Boneforged Centurion may give all adjacent allies wielding a shield a +1 bonus to their armor class until the start of their next turn so long as the Boneforged Centurion also has their shield.

Second Wind (1/Long Rest). As a bonus action, the Boneforged Centurion may restore 13 (1d10 + 8) hit points to themselves.

Reclaim Javelin. As a bonus action, the Boneforged Centurion may pick up and stow or equip an already thrown javelin that they are within 5 feet of. If they choose to equip it, they stow whatever was occupying the hand they reclaimed the javelin with.

Reactions

Centurion Strike. Whenever a creature the Boneforged Centurion can see enters the Dwarven Centurion's melee reach or makes a melee attack against a creature within their melee reach, they may make an opportunity attack with a melee weapon against that creature as a reaction. If this attack hits, the creature's speed is reduced to 0, and the attack gains a +1 bonus to its damage for every 5 feet that creature moved this turn.

Shield Master Evasion. Whenever the Boneforged Centurion succeeds a DEX saving throw against a spell or other effect which would cause them to take half damage, they can use their reaction to take no damage, instead.

Shield Parry. Whenever the Boneforged Centurion would be hit with by a melee attack from a creature they can see, they may add their proficiency bonus (+3) to their AC as a reaction, potentially causing the attack to miss.

Description

Raising undead from the corpses of warriors is a common practice, but among the most sought after are those raised from particularly skilled soldiers. Boneforged Centurions are prime examples of such undead, being raised from the corpses of centurion fighters. These corpses often bare the elite armor of their time in service, typically being entombed still wearing their armor and with their weapons of choice readily available for an enterprising necromancer to acquire. These undead make for some of the best undead foot soldiers, having bones well hardened from years of training in life, and souls that, if successfully bound to their bodies, have all the martial training of a stalwart defender.
