Description

The Lore of the Bag Golem

Origins

The Bag Golem is believed to have originated in the fabled "City of Alchemists," a lost metropolis where the brightest minds gathered to perform experiments at the intersection of magic and science. There, a genius artificer named Elira Nightshade sought to create a construct capable of guarding the vast repositories of magical artifacts that the city housed. Unsuccessful with traditional golems, she turned her attention to Bags of Holding, which were already a marvel of magical engineering.

After many failed experiments and a handful of accidental explosions, Elira finally succeeded. She managed to enchant the Bag of Holding in such a way that its extradimensional space could be transformed into physical matter, creating a guardian construct. Thus, the first Bag Golem was born, a creature both practical as a storage device and formidable as a guardian.

Rarity and Distribution

The art of creating Bag Golems was a closely guarded secret, shared among a select few in the inner circles of the City of Alchemists. But as with all treasures, word spread, albeit slowly. The knowledge was mostly lost when the City of Alchemists disappeared mysteriously, believed by some to have been sucked into an extradimensional vortex of its own making. Yet some tomes, scrolls, and, most importantly, Bag Golems themselves survived.

These bags are incredibly rare and often mistaken for ordinary Bags of Holding. They are typically found in the hoards of powerful wizards, the vaults of ancient ruins, or sometimes in the possession of extraplanar traders.

Powers and Abilities

The Bag Golem's enchanted fabric is written with microscopic arcane runes that allow it to transform and hold a command word. Only those who know this command word can activate the Bag Golem, making them a prized possession for adventurers and a terrible surprise for any would-be thieves.

Over time, the artificers and wizards who managed to uncover or reverse-engineer Elira's original design added their own modifications. Some Bag Golems can cast simple spells, others have elemental resistances, and a few rare specimens can even speak or understand multiple languages.

In Modern Times

The few who are aware of the existence of Bag Golems and actively seek them are often considered eccentric collectors, paranoid wizards, or historians obsessed with the City of Alchemists. But the fact remains that anyone fortunate enough to possess a Bag Golem holds not just a powerful artifact but a piece of lost history.

Modern artificers still puzzle over the seamless integration of construct and extradimensional magic, and many believe that rediscovering the secrets of the Bag Golem could lead to breakthroughs in other fields of magic.

Role in Adventures

For adventurers lucky enough to stumble upon a Bag Golem, it becomes a source of both power and intrigue. Activating and controlling the golem often involves solving riddles or undertaking quests to find the command word. And once activated, the golem serves as a formidable ally, but also as a beacon that attracts the attention of other seekers—both good and bad.

In short, owning a Bag Golem is both a boon and a challenge, offering boundless opportunities for wealth, power, and endless adventure.
