Lunar Blessing. The Moon Dragon's powers wax and wane with the phases of the moon. During a full moon, its radiant and healing powers are at their peak, and during a new moon, it gains more abilities related to shadows and stealth.

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the Moon Dragon fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Actions

Multiattack. The Moon Dragon can use its Frightful Presence. It then makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (2d10 + 6) piercing damage.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d6 + 6) slashing damage.

Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (2d8 + 6) bludgeoning damage.

Frightful Presence. Each creature of the dragon's choice that is within 120 feet of the dragon and aware of it must succeed on a DC 21 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Moonbeam (Recharge 5-6). The Moon Dragon exhales a beam of moonlight in a 90-foot line that is 5 feet wide. Each creature in that line must make a DC 20 Constitution saving throw, taking 55 (10d10) radiant damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Legendary Actions

The Moon Dragon can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The dragon regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

  • Detect. The dragon makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.

  • Tail Attack. The dragon makes a tail attack.

  • Wings (2 Actions). The dragon beats its wings. Each creature within 15 ft. of the dragon must succeed on a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw or take 15 (2d6 + 6) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. The dragon can then fly up to half its flying speed.

  • Lunar Heal (3 Actions, Full Moon Only). The dragon channels the energy of the moon to heal itself or a creature it can see within 60 feet. The target regains 50 hit points.

  • Shadow Step (2 Actions, New Moon Only). The dragon becomes a shadow and teleports to an unoccupied space it can see within 60 feet.

Description

Origin & Appearance: Birthed from the mystical astral seas, the Adult Moon Dragon possesses an ethereal elegance that is unparalleled. Its scales shimmer like polished silver, each capturing and reflecting the soft luminescence of moonlight. The dragon's vast wings are reminiscent of the Northern Lights, both translucent and awash with colors of the cosmos, while its eyes hold a depth that seems to encompass the entirety of the night sky.

Sounds & Calls: Hauntingly beautiful, the cries of the Moon Dragon are harmonious echoes of Eilistraee's moonlit songs. They resonate with a combination of sorrow and hope, a melody that seems to bridge the divide between the material and the astral, capturing the hearts of all who hear it.

Abilities: Their life force is intrinsically linked to the phases of the moon. As such, their powers vary, waxing and waning with the lunar cycle. At their peak, they can emit radiant beams of intense energy, while their affinity with shadows grows during the new moon, granting them stealth and elusiveness. Moreover, they hold the unique ability to heal, a gift from their bond with Eilistraee.

Behavior & Role: Forever guardians of Eilistraee's followers, these dragons are protectors from the shadows. Their presence in the material realm is rare, making them all the more revered. They appear during significant celestial events or when Eilistraee's faithful are in grave danger, descending with majesty and grace to shield those under their care.

Reputation & Lore: Sightings of an Adult Moon Dragon are considered auspicious omens, signifying divine intervention or a shift in the cosmic balance. The elves, in particular, hold these creatures in high regard, with tales of their bravery woven into songs and stories. To witness one is not just to see a dragon but to feel the touch of the divine, to be momentarily connected to the enigmatic bond between the Moon Dragons and Eilistraee.

Modern Interaction: In an age where Eilistraee's followers face challenges, the Moon Dragons remain vigilant sentinels. While their appearances are infrequent, the mere possibility of their descent from the astral realm keeps the hopes of the elves alive. Many a night, elven children and adults alike gaze skyward, hearts filled with hope, searching for a glint of moonlit scales in the vastness above.
