Description
Dragonettes impress at birth with the first thing that gives them food. Upon impressing they form a permanent telepathic and empathic bond with their impressor. Dragonettes inherently know their own name and relate that to their impressor. This name doesn't follow any convention, is usually gender ambiguous and tends to be human-like. Dragonettes mature fully in a single week and eat constantly during this. Afterward, they need to eat only once every two months. Both entities share emotions, souls, and thoughts. They still are separate though. If the dragonette is scared, happy, in pain, hungry, confused, amorous, etc their impressor tends to exhibit such traits and vice verse. They "speak" using a guttural form of their impressors accent. Dragonettes are incapable of forming long term memories and tap their impressors memory for guidance. They only ever refer to their impressor by name, everyone and place are referred to by a title or a descriptor such as "The King" for "King Ebonheart" or "The Lithe one" for a skinny elf. Dragonettes come in all shades, but only dragonettes with a shade of yellow are female. If the dragonette's impressor dies the dragonette will jump between repeatedly in an attempt to kill itself it loses any sentience it had and can only feel grief. If the Dragonette dies its impressor will suffer too. There is a 25 percent chance that its impressor will go mad with grief lashing out at everything around it and loses any self-preservation instinct. In this state, the impressor is unable to cast spells and is unaffected by calm emotions, sleep or similar effects. Otherwise, the impressor falls into a deep depression, losing the ability to feel happy and usually resorting to substance abuse or self-harm, if the DM rules, the impressor also could roll on the permanent insanity table and trauma table. Forming lasting relationships or impressing another dragonette will mitigate this.
Dragonettes are scaleless and have malleable soft skin. Their eyes are multifaceted like a fly's and they have knobs reminiscent of a giraffes. These knobs pick of frequency and act as ears, but no sound however loud or pitched can cause it harm. Dragonettes smell constantly and strongly of cooking spices, even when dirty, this extends to their impressors but can be lessened with a bath, sweat, or muck.
