False Appearance. While the tree remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from a normal tree.
Multiattack. Arescet makes two slam attacks.
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 5) bludgeoning damage.
Root Grapple (Recharge 5-6). Arescet attempts to grapple a creature within 20 feet. Melee Grapple Attack: +8 to hit, one target. The target is grappled (escape DC 16) and restrained. Until the grapple ends, the target is also restrained and takes 7 (2d6) bludgeoning damage at the start of each of Arescet's turns. Arescet can grapple up to two Medium-sized creatures or one Large-sized creature at a time. If a target or targets are grappled by Arescet, during her next turn, Arescet can make slam attacks and hold the grapple without using her action.
Animate Trees (Recharge 5-6): As an action, Arescet can animate 1d4 trees within 60 feet of her. The animated trees have the same statistics as an Awakened Tree.
Enrage (1/Day): When reduced to half its hit points or fewer, Arescet can enter a state of furious rage. While enraged, her slam attacks deal an additional 1d10 damage, and she gains advantage on Strength checks and saving throws.
Description
Arescet is the spirit of an evil druid that was defeated hundreds of years ago and sealed inside a sacred oak tree. The malice from the spirit has worn away the bindings placed on her so long ago and has turned the essence of the tree into something gnarled and twisted.
Lair and Lair Actions
Blighted Roots (3/Day). Arescet uses its connection to the land to send forth writhing roots from the ground. Choose up to three 5-foot squares within 60 feet of Arescet. Those squares become difficult terrain, and any creature that starts its turn there must succeed on a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw or be restrained until the start of its next turn.
