Tactics The Vanguard Knight is a skilled protector and will often position themselves between their allies and threats. They use their shield to absorb attacks and their longsword to counter-attack. In dire situations, they may activate their Aura of Protection to bolster their allies' defenses.
Sword and Shield Mastery. The Vanguard Knight wields a longsword and shield with expertise, granting the following benefits:
- Can make an extra attack as a bonus action when using the Attack action with a longsword.
- Can use the shield to perform a Shield Bash as a melee attack, forcing the target to make a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
-
Multiattack. The Vanguard Knight makes two attacks: one with its longsword and one with its shield.
-
Longsword (Melee Weapon Attack). +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8 + 3) slashing damage.
-
Shield Bash (Melee Weapon Attack). +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d4 + 3) bludgeoning damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Parry. When the Vanguard Knight is hit by a melee attack, it can use its reaction to add 2 to its AC against that attack, potentially causing it to miss.
Aura of Protection (1/Day) (Recharge 5-6) The Vanguard Knight can activate an aura of protection that extends in a 10-foot radius around them for 1 minute. While the aura is active, the Vanguard Knight and friendly creatures within the aura gain a +2 bonus to their AC and have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
