Abyssal Presence. Any creature that starts its turn within 120 feet of the dragon and can see the dragon must make a DC 21 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the dragon's Abyssal Presence for the next 24 hours.
Abyssal Waters. The area within 1 mile of the dragon is filled with abyssal energy. Water sources within this area are black and thick, like ink. Any creature other than the dragon that enters or starts its turn in such water takes 21 (6d6) necrotic damage.
Multiattack. The dragon can use its Frightful Presence and then make three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +16 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (2d10 + 10) piercing damage plus 14 (4d6) necrotic damage.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +16 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d6 + 10) slashing damage.
Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +16 to hit, reach 20 ft., one target. Hit: 19 (2d8 + 10) bludgeoning damage.
Abyssal Flame Breath (Recharge 5-6). The dragon exhales a dark abyssal fire in a 120-foot line that is 10 feet wide. Each creature in that line must make a DC 23 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 45 (13d6) fire damage and 46 (13d6) necrotic damage, or half as much of both types of damage on a successful one. This dark flame clings to the soul, making it not just burn, but feel as if it's being consumed by the abyss.
Legendary Actions
The dragon can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The dragon regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
Detect. The dragon makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.
Tail Attack. The dragon makes a tail attack.
Wing Attack (Costs 2 Actions). The dragon beats its wings. Each creature within 15 feet of the dragon must succeed on a DC 24 Dexterity saving throw or take 17 (2d6 + 10) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. The dragon can then fly up to half its flying speed.
Summon Abyssal Minions (Costs 3 Actions). The dragon summons 1d4 Shadow Demons from the abyss. They act immediately after the dragon in the initiative order and follow its commands.
Description
The Ancient Abyssal Dragon is a vast, shadowy leviathan, its scales the color of deep obsidian and its eyes a piercing crimson. Trails of abyssal fire streak its body, and its roar seems to echo from the very void itself. Legends speak of its emergence during times of cosmic upheaval, a harbinger of cataclysms. In an age long past, the combined might of four ancient metallic dragons – gold, silver, bronze, and copper – managed to seal this monstrosity away. However, with the bonds weakening, the Abyssal Dragon stirs once more, threatening to plunge the world into darkness and chaos.
