Traits

Nightmarish Weapons. The angel's weapon attacks are magical. When the angel hits with any weapon, the weapon deals an extra 2d8 radiant damage + 4d8 necrotic damage (included in the attack).

Divine Awareness. The angel knows if it hears a lie.

Lesser Legendary Resistance (2/Day). If the angel fails a saving throw, it can choose to reroll it with advantage.

Magic Resistance. The angel has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Nightmarish Telepathy. Creatures hostile to the angel that the angel speaks to using its telepathy must make a DC 19 Intelligence saving throw or have disadvantage on saving throws against spells of the Enchantment and Illusion schools, or similar magical effects.

Actions

Multiattack. The angel makes two attacks.

Bladed Spear. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 10 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 20 (3d8 + 7) slashing or piercing damage plus 9 (2d8) radiant damage + 18 (4d8) necrotic damage.

Healing Touch (4/Day). The angel touches another creature that is a Fiend, Undead, Aberration, or Monstrosity. The target magically regains 31 (6d8 + 4) hit points and is freed from any curse, disease, poison, blindness, or deafness.

Corrupting Touch (3/Day). The angel touches another creature or targets a creature it can see within 20 feet of it that is not a Fiend, Undead, Aberration, or Monstrosity. The target magically regains 17 (3d8 + 4) hit points and must succeed on a DC 20 Constitution saving throw or have disadvantage on all saving throws and ability checks for 1 minute.

Innate Spellcasting. The angel's spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 22). The angel can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

At will: detect evil and good, bestow curse, major image, phantasmal killer, hunger of Hadar, invisibility (self only)

3/day each: blade barrier, dispel evil and good, dominate person, contagion, animate dead (undead raised are the Aberration creature type)

1/day each: commune, control weather, insect plague

Reactions

Protective Suffering. In response to one of the angel's allies being dealt damage, the angel reduces that damage by 4d10 and the ally must succeed on a DC 22 Intelligence saving throw or have a numerical penalty equal to

Legendary Actions

The angel can take 2 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The angel regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Nightmare. The angel casts one of its at-will spells or makes a Charisma check.

Smite (Costs 2 Actions). The angel makes a melee attack with advantage.

Wing Attack (Costs 2 Actions). The angel flaps its corrupted, metallic wings. Each target within 10 feet of it must make a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw, taking 14 (2d6 + 7) slashing or bludgeoning damage (angel's choice) + 4 (1d8) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. The angel may then fly up to half its flying speed.

Description

Angels of Suffering are angelic beings, usually planetars or similar angels, who have willingly succumbed to some sort of aberrant corruption. This willingness, though extremely rare, can come from many sources, though usually from the angel having a distaste for the humanoids that must depend on it. Now drawing power from a corrupt patron or simply out for themselves, these angels wield the power of nightmares. Angels of suffering always have stiff-looking wings that have the appearance of being made out of feathers that have been perfectly fused with strips of ancient metal. Their spears have their ends sharpened to the point of like that of a sword, are almost as long as the angel's body, and look rusty and old when viewed by mortal eyes. Because of this, the foes of the angel that are struck by its weapon have their struck parts of their body necrosified by an alien, rust-like material.
