Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the dragon fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.
Magical Detection: The dragon can naturally detect all magic within its line of sight, equal to the detect magics skill. It can also use this ability to detect what type of magic is being emitted.
Magical Regeneration: Whenever the dragon consumes magic, it regenerates either health or power. The type of power of regeneration is depended on the type and power of the magic devoured.
Multiattack. The dragon can use its Arcane Drain. It then makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.
Siphoning Fangs. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 2d10 +6 piercing damage. If the target has spell slots, they must roll 2d4’s, losing an available slot equal to the level rolled. The dragon then heals an amount equal to a d6 per spell level consumed +10. Ex. 4th level spell slot heals 4d4 + 10. If this attack is used in a magical item or structure, it will loose its magical properties for 1 minute. If the item is destroyed afterwards, it doesn’t regain its magic.
Spell-Scythe. Melee Weapon Attack: + 8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 2d6 + 8 slashing damage. The target must then make a DC 16 Charisma saving throw or suffer 2d4 + 4 points of psychic damage. They must then roll on the Wild Magic Table, suffering it’s effects. If they succeeded, they must still roll, but do not suffer the psychic damage.
Arcane Drain: The Dragon targets any creature it can see within 100ft of it. That target must succeed in a DC20 Charisma saving throw. If the target failed and has spell slots, they automatically lose their highest available spell slot. If they lack spell slots but have a magical item/weapon/armor, the item loses a magical charge and becomes non-magical for 1 minute. If they have multiple items, the item chose is of the highest rarity or is chosen randomly by the DM. The dragon instantly regains its Breath ability if the drain succeeds.
Stunning Breath. The dragon exhales a shimmering miasma in a 60-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw. If they fail, they are stunned, unable to move, communicate or take any actions or reactions. If they succeed, they suffer 2d4 + 5 psychic damage and are not stunned.
The dragon can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The dragon regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
Claw Attack. The dragon makes a claw attack.
Bite Attack. The dragon makes a bite attack
Wing Attack (Costs 2 Actions). The dragon beats its wings. Each creature within 10 feet of the dragon must succeed on a DC 19 Dexterity saving throw or take 13 (2d6 + 6) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. The dragon can then fly up to half its flying speed.
Description
“On the northern edge of the coastal forest, we came across a wizard’s tower. Or at least we thought it was a wizard’s tower. It was completely obliterated, broken nearly in half with its windows and doors smashed open, scattering ruined trinkets, tomes and debris everywhere. There were bodies too; mangled torsos that looked gnawed on, much like many of the scattered items. Strangest of all was the utter lack of magical aura. Not a trace to be found. The only clue to what happened; a large purple scale stuck between the stones of the ruined tower.” - Excerpt from “Of Flesh and Blood”, recounting the post-carnage of a purple dragon attack.
A testament to the true horror of Nova’tar, the Purple dragon is a scourge without equal. Often called “Magic Cravers” or “Arcane Devourers”, the Purple dragon hungers for magic as a rusty monster hungers for steel. Somehow, these relentless beasts are able to detect any magical presence, and zero in on it with the singular goal to devour it. Draining away the magic, they leave chewed items and mangled corpses of arcane practitioners in their wake.
Identified by their violet scales and four curved horns, two resembling a bulls and two similar to a black dragon, these dragons stand out as a blot on the landscape. And unnatural creature that shouldn’t exist, and yet prowls the land in an eternal search for arcane sustenance. Only the Empire has the power to keep the beasts at bay, but even they struggle at times. If it weren’t for their scarcity, they would have destroyed the Elves and their magical cities long ago.
