Font of Magic. Thurl has 9 sorcery points that he can spend on the following Metamagic options: Heightened Spell, Quicken Spell.

Heightened Spell. When you cast a spell that forces a creature to make a saving throw to resist its effects, you can spend 3 sorcery points to give one target of the spell disadvantage on its first saving throw made against the spell.

Quicken Spell. When you cast a spell that has a casting time of 1 action, you can spend 2 sorcery points to change the casting time to 1 bonus action for this casting.

Brave. Thurl has advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Heart of the Storm. Whenever Thurl starts casting a spell of 1st level or higher that deals lightning or thunder damage, stormy magic erupts from him. This eruption causes creatures of his choice that he can see within 10 feet of him to take 4 lightning or thunder damage (choose each time this ability activates).

Spellcasting. Thurl is a 9th-level spellcaster. His spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 16, +8 to hit with spell attacks). Thurl knows the following sorcerer spells (a caret spell is from Kibbles' Elemental Spells):

Cantrips (at will): electric arc^, gust, light, message, ray of frost

1st level (4 slots): electrify^, violent updraft^

2nd level (3 slots): vacuum pull^, misty step

3rd level (3 slots): counterspell, haste, static field^

4th level (3 slots): storm sphere suffocate^

5th level (1 slot): cone of cold

Actions

Multiattack. Thurl makes two melee attacks.

Greatsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) slashing damage.

Lightning Strike (Recharge 6). Thurl makes one melee attack. On a hit, the target takes an extra 18 (4d8) lightning damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or be stunned until the end of Thurl’s next turn.

Leadership (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). For 1 minute, Thurl can utter a special command or warning whenever a nonhostile creature that it can see within 30 feet of it makes an attack roll or a saving throw. The creature can add a d4 to its roll provided it can hear and understand the knight. A creature can benefit from only one Leadership die at a time. This effect ends if Thurl is incapacitated.

Bonus Actions

Tempestuous Magic. Thurl can cause whirling gusts of elemental air to briefly surround him, immediately before or after he casts a spell of 1st level or higher. Doing so allows him to fly up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks.

Reactions

Parry . Thurl adds 3 to his AC against one melee attack that would hit him. To do so, Thurl must see the attacker and be wielding a melee weapon.

Storm's Fury. When Thurl is hit by a melee attack, he can use his reaction to deal 9 lightning damage to the attacker. The attacker must also make a Strength saving throw against Thurl's spell save DC. On a failed save, the attacker is pushed in a straight line up to 20 feet away from him.

Mythic Actions

Thurl can take 3 mythic actions, choosing from the options below. Only one mythic action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. Thurl regains spent mythic actions at the start of his turn.

Lightning Fast. Thurl makes on melee attack or casts one cantrip.

Description

After the death of Aerisi and his own defeat at Feathergale Spire, Thurl found his way down to the Howling Caves and the node of elemental air. There, he communed with Yan-C-Bin, requesting more power to defeat his enemies. Thurl sacrificed his loyal griffon mount on the steps of the air node in exchange for being fused with the power of elemental air.

In doing so, Thurl became barely more then a thrall to Yan-C-Bin, a shell of his former self. Teeming with rage over his previous losses and near death experiences, he is driven by one desire: retrieve Windvane from the heretics that stole it from him and revive the cult of elemental air in his image.

Original Description: Thurl Merosska is the leader of the Feathergale Knights. Once a griffon rider of Waterdeep, Thurl retired after a storm nearly claimed his life. Obsessed with his near-death experience, Thurl learned of Yan-C-Bin and swore an oath to serve the elemental prince in exchange for power.

Thurl realized that there were others among the wealthy of Waterdeep who might make worthy servants of Yan-C-Bin. He formed the Feathergale Society to lure likely individuals into the air cult. He indoctrinated his Feathergale knights, one by one, into the cult’s beliefs.

When Aerisi Kalinoth arose as the chosen prophet of air, Thurl reluctantly pledged the Feathergale Knights to the cause. He resents Aerisi Kalinoth’s rulership of the cult, but tells himself that he can use her and her followers to make the Feathergale Society strong enough to rule Waterdeep as it should be ruled.
