Ethereal Lance. The cavalier's lance is a magical weapon that deals psychic damage.
Chromatic Affinity (Violet). The Violet Vanguard is attuned to the violet ray of the Prismatic Meteor, which grants it resistance to psychic damage and the ability to deal extra psychic damage with its attacks. This affinity also grants the cavalier the following special ability:
- Psychic Assault (1/Day). The Violet Vanguard can unleash a surge of psychic energy, targeting one creature it can see within 30 feet of it. The target must make a DC 16 Intelligence saving throw, taking 22 (5d8) psychic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. On a failed save, the target is also stunned until the end of the Violet Vanguard’s next turn.
Unwavering Loyalty. The Violet Vanguard is fanatically devoted to its Prismatic Meteor and will defend it to the death.
Parry. The Violet Vanguard adds 5 to its AC against one melee attack that would hit it. To do so, the Violet Vanguard must see the attacker and be wielding a melee weapon.
- Attack. The Violet Vanguard makes one attack with its lance or hooves.
- Move. The Violet Vanguard moves up to its speed.
- Psychic Blast (Costs 2 Actions). The Violet Vanguard unleashes a blast of psychic energy. Each creature in a 15-foot cone originating from the Violet Vanguard must make a DC 16 Intelligence saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 11 (2d10) psychic damage and is pushed 10 feet away from the Violet Vanguard. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and isn't pushed.
Description
The Violet Vanguard is a spectral cavalier, eternally bound to the chaotic whims of the Prismatic Meteor. This undead knight, clad in shimmering purple armour wreathed in violet flames, charges into battle with reckless abandon, driven by a love for revelry and a lingering sense of duty to protect the downtrodden. His erratic behaviour is often influenced by his equally whimsical spectral steed, and his fondness for drink sometimes makes him a liability in combat. Though corrupted by the Meteor's violet ray, a flicker of the noble knight Sir Valoric d'Argencourt remains, fighting for justice in his own unpredictable way.
