Description
Ash Phoenixes are a lesser breed of phoenixes. When a phoenix egg is cracked open before the phoenix has been able to rematerialize a new body, only ashes are found within the phoenix's eggs, which can be born into an Ash Phoenix. Alternatively, some skilled magic users have discovered a ritual by which they can spread the ashes formed by the death of a phoenix on ordinary birds and transform them into Ash Phoenixes.
No matter how they are formed, Ash Phoenixes appear to have a musty, dark grey coloration on their outer feathers with brighter red and orange under feathers. This coloration gives them the appearance of dying embers after a fire, still clinging to life after the fire has been extinguished. They have a wide wingspan and are solidly built, akin to large hawks.
Ash Phoenixes still maintain a strong connection to fire and their fire-bird ancestors. They are able to enter what is known as a "Flame Stance", wherein their body catches on magical fire and they turn into what is far more familiar as a phoenix. Typically, this stance makes the Ash Phoenix more lively and energetic, and they become more in tune with their fiery nature, allowing them to harness their flames.
Like normal Phoenixes, Ash Phoenixes are able to be reborn after death. However, unlike normal Phoenixes who leave behind a sturdy and resilient egg, Ash Phoenixes only leave behind a pile of ash, easily scattered and susceptible to true death. An Ash Phoenix can only be reborn if its ashes are set ablaze.
