Traits

Legendary Resistance (1/Day). If the wendigo fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Keen Hearing and Smell. The wendigo has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.

Undead Fortitude. If damage reduces the wendigo to 0 hit points, it must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 5 + the damage taken, unless the damage is radiant or from a critical hit. On a success, the wendigo drops to 1 hit point instead.

Actions

Multiattack. The wendigo makes 2 (1d4) attacks: one with its bite and all others with its claws.

Cursed Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d10 + 4) piercing damage. If the target is a humanoid, it must succeed on a DC 10 + wendigo's Constitution modifier Constitution saving throw or be cursed with Wendigo's Curse. If the bite critical hits then take an additional 2 (1d4) necrotic damage for 2 (1d4) turns.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) slashing damage.

Wyld Hunts Dream (1/Day). While tracking a target, the wendigo magically whispers to a sleeping humanoid target. A protection from evil and good spell cast on the target prevents this contact, as does a magic circle. As long as the contact persists, the target has nightmares of them being hunted. If these visions last for at least 1 hour, the target gains no benefit from its rest, and it takes 6 Psychic damage (2d6). If this effect reduces the target's hit points to 0, the target dies, and if the target was infected with the Wendigo's Curse it becomes a level 1 wendigo.

Reactions

Tracking. The wendigo targets a humanoid creature, per day, it can see within 120 feet to be magically tracked. A protection from evil and good spell cast on the target prevents this tracking, as does a magic circle. The target must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw, during a long rest, against this magic or continue to be tracked.

Legendary Actions

The wendigo can take 4 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn or when out of combat. The wendigo regains spent legendary actions at the end of combat or after feeding.

Detect. The wendigo makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.

Devour. The wendigo instantatly consumes a large or medium corpse within 50 ft. (this completes the task of feeding).

Predator's Whisper (Costs 2 Actions). The wendigo enters stealth, if not already stealthed. One humanoid tracked target within 120 feet of the wendigo must succeed on a DC 10 + wendigo's Constitution modifier + wendigo's Wisdom modifier skill check using Intelligence (Religion) or Wisdom (Insight), if failed take 4 (1d4+2) psychic damage.

Description

In the heart of the frozen forest, where shadows twist and moonlight chills the bone, whispers stir the air. Not the sigh of wind through branches, but something darker, more insidious. A rustle on the precipice, a chilling echo from beyond the trees, a name spoken just out of reach – these are the harbingers of the wendigo.

Its form, glimpsed in fleeting moments through the tangled boughs, is a mockery of humanity. Gaunt limbs, like branches stripped bare by winter, stretch from a body warped and emaciated. Skin, stretched taut over bone, seems to shimmer with an icy sheen, reflecting the pale moonlight but offering no warmth. Razor-sharp claws glint at the end of impossibly long fingers, and where a face should be, a mask of hunger contorts, teeth like shards of ice gleaming in the dim light.

This creature moves with an unnatural agility, defying the limitations of flesh and bone. It scales sheer cliffs with spider-like ease, bounds across snowdrifts in silent leaps, and disappears into the undergrowth with the swiftness of a wraith. The only sound that betrays its presence is the unsettling chorus of whispers that follows it – lost voices woven with promises of oblivion, chilling calls that lure the unwary deeper into the frozen labyrinth.

This is the wendigo – a predator not just of flesh, but of hope itself. Its gaunt form stalks the fringes of the wild, a chilling reminder that even in the heart of winter, something far more monstrous than the cold waits in the shadows.
