Traits

Amphibious. The blightvine drake can breathe air and water.

Vine Rend. The blightvine drake can unleash all of its vines at a creature within 10 feet of it, tightly wrapping it's powerful vines to crush and drawn the creature closer to its bite.  The crushing damage deals 5d6 bludgeoning damage and forces the target creature to make a DEX save (DC: 15) or become restrained.  The target takes an additional 2d6 bludgeoning damage at the start of the blightvine drake's next turn and the blightvine may make a bite attack with advantage.  Only one creature can be restrained by the blightvine drake at one time and the drake loses the ability to use vine attacks while a creature is restrained this way.  A restrained creature may use its action to make a Strength saving throw (DC: 16) to escape.

Actions

Multiattack. The blightvine drake makes one Bite attack and three vine attacks OR one Vine Rend attack (if available).

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8 + 5) piercing damage.  On a hit, the target takes 2d6 (2d6) poison damage (CON save DC: 16 for half).

Vine. Ranged Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 20 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 3) piercing damage.

Vine Rend (Recharge 5 or 6). Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 22 (5d6) bludgeoning damage.

Description

Blightvine drakes are reptilian creatures once created by powerful hags to guard their treasures and secrets.  The drakes began to reproduce asexually over time and now inhabit many swamps and forests in both the Feywild and Prime Material plane due to migration and magical creature theft and trade.

Prized for their bright green blood, many blightvine drakes are hunted and poached.  Blightvine blood, when used by a skilled alchemist can create either a powerful neurotoxin poison called "Blight Tox" or distilled into an elixir that can make the user resistant to all poisons for an hour.

Adult Blightvine Drakes grow to be nearly 10 feet tall and nearly 30 feet long, are vicious carnivores, and have been known to hunt entire herds of medium-sized creatures to near exhaustion in the lands they inhabit.

They are solitary creatures who reproduce by dropping a six-inch oval shaped mass of hardened root and scale the protects a cluster of drake zygote cells after their first adult molting.  The "egg" stays dormant and the cells multiplying for six months before rapidly expanding into a young drake by doubling in size every 7 days.  The newly "born" blightvine drake emerges from a 2 foot "egg" as a 3 foot tall medium-sized creature with an instinct to hunt and kill for food.

A newborn blightvine drake will consume its bodyweight in meat daily until it reaches its first molt about 3 months after its hatching and will reach full adult size in about a year when it has its first adult molt and the reproduction cycle begins again.

The average natural lifespan of a blightvine drake is 3-5 years.
