Magic Resistance. The cube has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Soul Taker. A Humanoid that is reduced to 0 hit points by the cube dies, and its soul rises as a lemure on Avernus, one of the Nine Hells, in 1d4 hours. If the creature isn’t revived before then, it can be restored to life only by a wish spell or by killing the lemure and casting true resurrection on the creature’s original body.
Ooze Cube. The cube takes up its entire space. Other creatures can enter the space, but a creature that does so is subjected to the cube's Engulf and has disadvantage on the saving throw.
Creatures inside the cube can be seen but have total cover.
A creature within 5 feet of the cube can take an action to pull a creature or object out of the cube. Doing so requires a successful DC 17 Strength check, and the creature making the attempt takes 15 (5d6) fire damage.
Standing Leap. The cube's long jump is up to 30 feet and its high jump is up to 20 feet, with or without a running start.
Multiattack. The cube makes two Psuedopod attacks or one Psuedopod and one Engulf.
Psuedopod. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 20 (3d8 + 7) bludgeoning damage plus 11 (2d10) fire damage. If the target is a creature, it can’t regain hit points until the start of the cube's next turn.
Infernal Orb. The cube hurls a magical ball of fire that explodes in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on a point the cube can see within 120 feet of itself. The sphere spreads around corners. Each creature in that area must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 18 (4d8) fire damage and 18 (4d8) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Engulf. The cube moves up to its speed. While doing so, it can enter Medium or smaller creatures' spaces. Whenever the cube enters a creature's space, the creature must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw.
On a successful save, the creature can choose to be pushed 5 feet back or to the side of the cube. A creature that chooses not to be pushed suffers the consequences of a failed saving throw.
On a failed save, the cube enters the creature's space, and the creature takes 15 (5d6) fire damage and is engulfed. The engulfed creature can't breathe, is restrained, and takes 28 (8d6) fire damage at the start of each of the cube's turns. When the cube moves, the engulfed creature moves with it.
An engulfed creature can try to escape by taking an action to make a DC 17 Strength check. On a success, the creature escapes and enters a space of its choice within 5 feet of the cube.
Description
Gelatinous cubes scour dungeon passages in silent, predictable patterns, leaving perfectly clean paths in their wake. They consume living tissue while leaving bones and other materials undissolved inside their wobbling forms.
A cube that is well-fed can be easy to spot, since its victims’ bones, coins, and other objects can be seen suspended inside the creature. On rare occasions, a greater devil is either killed by a cube or its smoking remains are swept up into the ooze's form before it has been recalled to the Nine Hells.
When this occurs the infernal soul that burns within the creature's bones, specifically its horned skull, will remain within the cube taking possession of the ooze's form.
When this transformation occurs, the ooze's intelligence is completely stripped away and replaced by the devil's. The newly formed cube will often tempt and bargain with mortals as the devil did in its previous life, but now in an eternally burning, jelly-like form.
Visually a Baatorian Cube resembles a Gelatinous Cube except that its ooze is blood red, flaming orange or an angered ochre. Suspended neatly within the centre of a Baatorian Cube is a monstrous horned skull that once belonged to a pit fiend, fire hellion or another greater devil.
