Description

"Uru-Thuf" "God of the Seas", as it is called by the Uluaakuk Dwards on the Northern Wastes, is a great horned whale, larger than any creature naturally found on (worlds name). Fully 360 ft (109.7 m) long, the beast's tail is 60 ft (18.3 m) wide with tusks larger than three Northmen.

The Uru-Thuk commonly called a Leviathon or Thogan Whale in the Common Tounge, rules the arctic seas of the North feeding on other whales and sea monsters. The whales are rarely seen, for they are few in number and often dive to deep depths.

Competition for the blubber trade amongst the Northmen is fierce and clan warfare for trade is constant. The Uluaakuk will not directly trade with anyone who hasn't participated with them in a successful hunt and participated in their 3 week long raucous pre-hunt festival. The many Uluaakuk clans are only able to harvest 1-3 whales throughout the year and alliances are made with other clans to hedge their bets for a share. Many marriages between clans and honor debts result.

The hunt is incredibly dangerous in the frozen seas, and many hunters do not return home. Large roped harpoons, pole spears, and multiple whaling vessels are used in the hunt. The processing and transporting of the meat is equally as dangerous with arctic predators such as, packs of arctic dire wolves, Nograls and barbarian scavengers trying the get their share.

Thogan Whale Blubber and Ivory

Lamp oil made from the blubber of a Thogan Whale burns 1000 times longer than normal oil and is highly prized in enhancing and product that can be made from traditional oil ie Oil of Fiery Burning. Mages in Dragonport use enchantments to make Thogan Oil lamps that burn indefinitely.

The ivory of a Thogan whale is nearly as strong as steel and is used by the Uluaakuk for art, construction and weapons.
