Traits

Evasion. If the Bellower Lizard is subjected to an effect that allows it to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, it instead takes no damage if it succeeds on the saving throw and only half damage if it fails, provided it isn't incapacitated.

Nimble Movement. The Bellower Lizard can take the Disengage or Dash action as a bonus action on each of its turns.

Sound Dependent. The Bellower Lizard has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing. If the Bellower Lizard is deafened, it suffers the affects of both the blinded and deafened conditions and is unable to use its recharging actions or recharge them.

Thunder Absorption. When the Bellower Lizard receives thunder damage, the distance at which the thunder produces sound is halved, and the Bellower Lizard can add an extra 2d8 thunder damage to its next attack.

Actions

Multiattack. The Bellower Lizard makes one bite and two claw attacks.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d10 + 5) piercing damage.

Claw. Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 5) slashing damage.

Thunderous Scream (Recharge 5-6). The Bellower Lizard rears back its head and unleashes an ear-splitting scream that can be heard from out to 120 feet away. All creatures in a 40 foot radius that aren't Bellower Lizards must make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or take 20 (5d8) thunder damage and be deafened for one minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. A successful save results in half as much damage and not being deafened.

Description

The large Bellower Lizards spend most of their time basking in the mild sun of the Badland's craggy mountains. They're incredibly lean and nimble creatures, capable of dexterously moving across any solid surface with incredible speeds, making them desirable mounts when navigating the Badlands. Observation of both wild and domestic Bellower Lizards has lead to the conclusion that they utilize echolocation to travel and hunt, due to poor eyesight and incredibly acute hearing. This fact also makes it incredibly hard to approach wild Bellower Lizards, who will quickly scatter from any sound they find threatening.

Their scales are generally some hue of muted orange, red or brown to blend into the clay of the badlands, and their diets primarily consist of plant roots, fruits, and insects. In the wild, they travel in groups of 3-5, often referred to as a "Chorus", due to the song-like vocalizations they make to communicate. It has been observed that Bellower Lizards communicate in a "call-and-response", with many vocalizations serving as both answers to a call, and responses on what the Lizard is currently observing.
