Traits

Gas Pocket. Flame touching the flammable swamp gas within the bog drifter ignites, triggering an explosion which destroys the bog drifter. All creatures within 20 ft of the bog drifter must make a DC 10 Dexterity saving throw, taking 28 (8d6) fire damage on a failure or half as much on a success. Constricted creatures make this save at disadvantage. Creatures inside the bog drifter automatically fail the save.

Actions

Multiattack. The Bog Drifter makes up to three constrict attacks.

Constrict. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage and the target is restrained (escape DC 14). The drifter can have up to five targets constricted at a time.

Bonus Actions

Coil. The bog drifter coils up to five creatures which are constricted by its vines. Creatures may not be coiled in the same turn that they were constricted. Each time a constricted creature is coiled, it takes bludgeoning damage, starting at 11 (2d6 + 4), and increasing by 1d6 for each successive coil. Additionally, each coil increases the escape DC by 1. If a creature is coiled three times, it is pulled into the body of the bog drifter, where it takes 21 (6d6) poison damage at the start of each of its turns.

Description

A bog drifter is a mindless plant that has evolved to spread its seed by collecting swamp gas from the bogs and swamps where it thrives, allowing it to float with the wind until its buoyancy comes to an end and it falls back to the ground, nourishing its seeds with its rotting form. As it floats, sticky vines hang from the middle of it, just dragging along the ground, snatching any medium or smaller creatures they touch. These unfortunate creatures are then pulled into the bog drifter's main body where they are dissolved into gas to prolong the drifter's flight and additional nutrients for its progeny.
