Faultless Tracker. The Dragon Retriever is given a quarry by its master. The quarry can be a specific creature or object the master is personally acquainted with, or it can be a general type of creature or object the master has seen before. The retriever knows the direction and distance to its quarry as long as the two of them are on the same plane of existence. The retriever can have only one such quarry at a time. The retriever also always knows the location of its master.
Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the Dragon Retriever fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.
Multiattack. The Dragon Retriever makes one bite attack, two forleg attacks and one tail attack if a creature is behind.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d10 + 6) piercing damage plus 5 (1d10) poison damage.
Foreleg. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d8 + 6) slashing damage.
Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (1d8 + 6) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 17 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Force Beam. The Dragon Retriever targets one creature it can see within 60 feet of it. The target must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 27 (5d10) force damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Paralyzing Nightmare Breath (Recharge 5–6). The Dragon Retriever exhales a cloud of spores in a 60-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 33 (6d10) psychic damage, and it is paralyzed for 1 minute. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage with no additional effects. A [Tooltip Not Found] creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
If the paralyzed creature is Medium or smaller, the retriever can pick it up as part of the Dragon Retriever’s movement and walk or climb with it at full speed.
The Dragon Retriever can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The Dragon Retriever regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
Commanding Spores. The Dragon Retriever releases spores around a creature within 30 feet of it that it can see. The target must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or use its reaction to make a melee weapon attack against a random creature within reach. If no creatures are within reach, or the target can’t take a reaction, it takes 5 (1d10) psychic damage.
Attack. The Dragon Retriever makes one attack that is not a breath weapon or force beam.
Spore Salvo (Costs 2 Actions). The Dragon Retriever releases poisonous spores around a creature within 30 feet of it that it can see. The target must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or take 17 (5d6) poison damage and become poisoned for 1 minute. The poisoned creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
