Keen Sight and Smell. The bumblebear has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight or smell.
Flyby. The bumblebear doesn't provoke an opportunity attack when it flies out of an enemy's reach.
Hover. The bumblebear can hover in place while flying.
Pack Tactics. The bumblebear has advantage on an attack roll against a creature if at least one of the bumblebear's allies is within 10 feet of the creature, and the ally isn't incapacitated.
Multiattack. The bumblebear makes two attacks: one with its bite and two with its stinger.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 22 (3d8 + 6) piercing damage.
Stinger. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (2d8 + 6) piercing damage, and the target must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw, taking 36 (8d8) poison damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Pounce (Recharge 5-6). If the bumblebear moves at least 30 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with a bite attack on the same turn, that target must succeed on a DC 18 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is prone, the bumblebear can make two stinger attacks against it as a bonus action.
Wing Buffet. The Bumblebear beats its wings forcefully, creating a gust of wind. All creatures within a 10-foot radius must make a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be pushed 10 feet away from the Bumblebear.
Summon Swarm (Costs 2 Actions). The Bumblebear summons a swarm of giant bees to aid it in battle. The swarm acts on the Bumblebear's initiative and obeys its commands. The swarm lasts for 1 minute or until the Bumblebear dismisses it as a bonus action.
Bear's Roar (Costs 3 Actions): The Bumblebear unleashes a powerful roar. All creatures within a 20-foot radius must make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Description
A monstrous cross between giant wasp and bear, this highly aggressive and predatory creature is a menace to wooded areas. They are territorial by nature and will set up a perimeter of wasp nests around their underground nest. The bumblebear can communicate telepathically with their drones and use the swarms to direct prey to optimal hunting grounds.
The bumblebear loves gold. Drawn to the stuff like a bear to honey, the bumblebear has a dragonlike hoard of gold in all shapes and kinds at the heart of an established nest.
Lair and Lair Actions
The bumblebear is a solitary and predatory creature. It's lair is often nestled within wooded glens that used to be home to bears. The bumblebear will press into the woods, killing and eating it's prey, converting the meat into a mucus that feeds the colony of drones.
Hundreds of small nests of wasps and drones will keep a perimeter for the underground lair. These are hyper aggressive swarms of wasps that communicate telepathically with the queen of the lair. The queen will rally the troops to steer prey close to the entrance of the lair where she will pounce.
The catacombs that make up the lair are intricate and delicate. The bumblebear is famously attracted to gold, as it matches the color of honey. Hoards of gold are kept the heart of the nest. Larvae pupate among the piled coins and goods to familiarize themselves with the material.
Lair Actions: 1 Action per round on initiative 20
-
Swarm of Bees (Costs 1 Lair Action): The Bumblebear summons a swarm of giant bees to a point it can see within 60 feet. The swarm acts on the Bumblebear's initiative count and obeys its commands. The swarm disappears after 1 minute or when the Bumblebear falls unconscious.
-
Honeyed Ground (Costs 1 Lair Action): The floor in a 20-foot radius around the Bumblebear becomes sticky with honey. This area is considered difficult terrain, and creatures that start their turn or enter the area must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be restrained until the start of their next turn.
