Boon of Dread. Eerie whispers can be heard around the bishop. Any non-Undead creature that starts its turn within 30 feet of the bishop must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened of the bishop until the start of the creature’s next turn.
Flammable Ectoplasmic Boon. When any creature starts its turn within 10 feet of the bishop, the bishop can reduce that creature’s speed by 10 feet until the start of the creature’s next turn, until which the creature is covered by ectoplasm. During which, if the creature takes fire damage, the creature takes an additional 10 (3d6) fire damage.
Light Control. The bishop is covered in unholy flame. The bishop sheds either dim light in a 15-foot radius, bright light in a 15-foot radius and dim light for an additional 15 feet, or cause all light to become dim light in a 15-foot radius. It can switch between the options or deactivate this as an action.
Magic Resistance. The bishop has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Soul Fire. When the bishop deals necrotic or fire damage using an attack, ability, weapon, or spell, it can choose to change it to the other type.
Spectral Boon. The bishop can move through creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain, but it takes 5 (1d10) force damage if it ends its turn inside a creature or an object.
Spellcasting. The bishop is a 6th-level spellcaster. Its spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 16, +7 to hit with spell attacks). It requires no somatic or material components to cast its spells. The bishop has the following wizard spells prepared:
Cantrip (at will): mage hand
1st level (4 slots): magic missile, shield
2nd level (3 slots): blur, flaming sphere
3rd level (3 slots): fireball
Once per day: animate dead, create undead
Vampiric Boon. When the bishop deals necrotic damage to any creature, the bishop gains a number of temporary hit points equal to half that necrotic damage, rounded down.
Master Tattoo of Osybus. If the bishop drops to 0 hit points, roll a d6. If the result is at least 4, or if its Unholy Rejuvenation trait is still in effect and rolls at least 3, it revives at the start of its next turn with half its hit points restored. Else, the bishop dies. To prevent this revival, the Tattoo of Osybus on the bishop’s body must be destroyed. The tattoo is invulnerable while the bishop has at least 1 hit point. The tattoo is otherwise an object with AC 15, and it is immune to poison and psychic damage in addition to all other resistances, vulnerabilities, and immunities the bishop normally has. It has 20 hit points, but it regains all its hit points at the end of every combatant’s turn. During this time the fire and slime surrounding the bishop vanish, leaving only its transparent skull.
Unholy Rejuvenation. If the bishop is destroyed, be it from its Master Tattoo of Osybus being destroyed or otherwise, it regains all its hit points in 1 hour unless holy water is sprinkled on its remains or a dispel magic or remove curse spell is cast on them. If this effect is disabled from Immediate Revival, this trait is restored after a long rest.
Multiattack. The bishop attacks twice using either Soul Blade or Necrotic Bolt.
Soul Fire Slash. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (2d4 + 3) piercing damage plus 2 (1d4) fire damage. The bishop's arms become razor thin and jabs at a target. If the target is a creature, it is paralyzed until the start of the bishop’s next turn. If this damage reduces a Medium or smaller creature to 0 hit points, the creature dies, and its soul is trapped in the bishop's body, manifesting as a shadowy Soul Tattoo on the bishop. The soul is freed if the bishop dies.
Necrotic Bolt. Ranged Spell Attack: +8 to hit, range 120 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (3d8 + 4) necrotic damage, and the target can’t regain hit points until the start of the bishop’s next turn.
Ectoplasmic Boon. As an action, the bishop can use the slime surrounding it to make itself look and feel like any creature that is Medium, Small, or Tiny, while retaining its game statistics. The realistic look and feel of transformation lasts for 16 hours or until the bishop drops to 0 hit points.
Circle of Death (Spell. Each creature in a 60-foot-radius sphere centered on a point the bishop can see within 150 feet of it must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw, taking 28 (8d6) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Soul Tattoo (Recharge 4–6). The bishop causes one of the black flames on its body to vanish. The soul trapped inside the flame then manifests as a shadowy creature that appears in an unoccupied space the bishop can see within 30 feet of it. The creature has the size and silhouette of its original body, but it otherwise uses the stat block of a shadow but has the Soul Fire trait and is immune to fire damage.
The shadow obeys the bishop’s mental commands (no action required) and takes its turn immediately after the bishop. If the creature is within 5 feet of the bishop, it can turn back into a flame as an action, reappearing on the bishop's body and regaining all its hit points.
Immediate Revival. If the bishop fails to revive from the Master Tattoo of Osybus trait but still has the Unholy Rejuvenation trait, then it can immediately revive at full health using this reaction. However, it will lose its Unholy Rejuvenation trait
The bishop can take 2 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The bishop regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
Multiattack. The bishop attacks twice using either Soul Blade or Necrotic Bolt.
Call of the Dead(Costs 2 Actions):. The bishop immediately decreases the recharge time of its Soul Tattoo bonus action by 1, graining a recharge on rolls of 3 to 6 when it starts its next turn.
Description
Out of the hundreds of the priests of Osybus, only a handful can receive the full Boons of Undeath, be it from sheer luck or willpower. From that, fewer still can truly become a bishop. In a secret ritual, six priests who have each received all six boons are bombarded with unholy energy from the Dark Powers. This suffering continues until the six are either destroyed or turned into bishops. Normally one or two will survive, but cases of three and four are possible.
A bishop looks like a small or medium sized humanoid made entirely out of teal flame, surrounded by an unholy light. In actuality, it is a mostly tiny transparent skull covered in a thin, flammable slime. The skull can control this slime to appear as if it is a being made completely out of unholy flame, as well as shape itself as it sees fit. Streaks of black fire surround some areas, and function the same as tattoos other priests have. Yet the tattoo that controls its resurrections is still the one on its forehead.
