Imperfect False Appearance. While the Assassin vine Sproutling remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from a normal plant. A creature can make a nature check (DC 15) to distinguish the imperfect camouflage of the Young Vine Assassin. If a creature is Surprised by the Assassin Vine Sproutling it remains camouflaged.

Entangling Vines. Nonmagical plants within 20 ft. of the Assassin Vine Sproutling animate under its will, causing the area to be difficult terrain. A creature that moves 10 or more feet through this area on a turn must succeed on a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw or become grappled. Creatures can make a DC 13 Strength throw to break the grapple at the end of their turn.

Extreme Light Sensitivity. If this creature is exposed to bright light it gains the frightened condition. If this creature is exposed magical or natural sunlight it gains the petrified condition turning it to wood in 1d4 rounds.

Constrict. As a bonus action all creatures grappled by the Assassin Vine Sproutling Within 5ft must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or take 6 (1d6+3) bludgeoning damage or half as much on a successful save.

Description

"Assassin vines lie in wait until they sense motion within their reach then snap out to grab it. They don't release prey willingly once they have it grappled, and don't retreat when injured."
-excerpt from "Hidden enemies of Fomith"

"The assassin vine has limited ability to sense, plan, or move, its ideal prey is one that is fleeing through the brush from something else and cannot take the time to spot and go around it, or one that happens to set down for a rest near it."
-excerpt from "Fauna in the Underdark: Friend or Foe?"

Nature DC 10: The sap of the assassin vine is highly irritating to the skin and lungs, and can be lethally toxic in high enough quantities. When encountering an assassin vine, one must take care to stay a considerable distance away if attempting to cut or pierce it.

Nature DC 15: Assassin vines are remarkably tenacious plants, able to survive equally in forests, jungles, and some are even known to take root in dungeons. They are most commonly known to take root in the underdark, supplanting their normal photosynthesis with increased supplementary feeding.
