Traits

Acidic Secretion. Any nonmagical metal weapon that hits the Bathhouse Plant corrodes. After dealing damage, the weapon takes a permanent and cumulative -1 penalty to damage rolls. If its penalty drops to -5, the weapon is destroyed. Nonmagical ammunition made of metal that hits the monstrosity is destroyed after dealing damage.

Regeneration. The Bathhouse Plant regains 10 hit points at the start of its turn. If the monstrosity takes fire damage, this trait doesn't function at the start of the monstrosity's next turn. The plant dies only if it starts its turn with 0 hit points and doesn't regenerate.

Spore Cloud. When the Bathhouse Plant takes damage, a cloud of spores bursts from it in a 15-foot radius. Each creature in that area must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or become slowed (as the slow spell) until the end of their next turn. Upon failing four such saves during a single encounter, a creature falls asleep for 1 minute or until they take damage or someone uses an action to wake them.

Actions

Multiattack. The Bathhouse Monstrosity makes two attacks, choosing from the options below.

Tendril. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8+5) bludgeoning damage plus 9 (2d8) acid damage. If the target is a creature, it is grappled (escape DC 16). Until this grapple ends, the creature is restrained.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8+5) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it is grappled (escape DC 16). Until this grapple ends, the creature is restrained, and the Bathhouse Plant can't use its bite on another target. The plant is blinded while it has a creature grappled in its mouth.

Swallow. The Bathhouse Plant makes one bite attack against a Large or smaller target it is grappling. If the attack hits, the target is swallowed, and the grapple ends. The swallowed target is blinded and restrained, it has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the plant, and it takes 21 (6d6) acid damage at the start of each of the plant's turns. If the Bathhouse Plant takes 30 damage or more on a single turn from a creature inside it, the plant must succeed on a DC 18 Constitution saving throw at the end of that turn or regurgitate the swallowed creature, which falls prone in a space within 10 feet of the plant. If the Bathhouse Plant dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained by it and can escape from the corpse using 15 feet of movement, exiting prone.

Reactions

Flee Into the Depths. When the Bathhouse Plant is reduced to 30 hit points or fewer, it can use its reaction to attempt to flee by dropping into the aquifers below. It disappears from sight and is considered out of combat unless pursued immediately.

Legendary Actions

The Bathhouse Plant can take 2 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The plant regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

  • Tendril Attack (Costs 1 Action). The Bathhouse Plant makes one Tendril attack.
  • Swallow (Costs 2 Actions). The Bathhouse Plant makes one Swallow attack against a creature it is grappling.

Description

A colossal plant-like abomination with enormous pale roots spreading out like writhing tentacles, coated in a glistening, acidic secretion that dissolves metal on contact. A singular eye sits the creature's mouth in the center of its flowering body, ready to retract in order to swallow its prey. The body and roots are dotted with patches of fuzzy, spore-releasing moss, adding a deceptive softness to its otherwise menacing form. This eerie entity exudes an aura of primal hunger and relentless survival.
