Traits

Translucent Skin. When the abyss lurker has not fed, its skin is translucent, granting it advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made while underwater.

Bloodthirsty. When the abyss lurker feeds on blood, its skin turns crimson. While its skin is crimson, it gains a +2 bonus to attack rolls and damage rolls.

Actions

Multiattack. The abyss lurker makes two tentacle attacks.

Tentacle. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 3) bludgeoning damage plus 5 (1d10) piercing damage.  If the target is a creature, it is grappled (escape DC 13) and the abyss lurker can't use the same tentacle on another target.

Bonus Actions

Blood Drain. The abyss lurker can use its bonus action to drain blood from a creature grappled by its tentacle. The target must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw, taking 10 (3d6) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The abyss lurker regains hit points equal to the damage dealt.

Description

Abyss lurkers are monstrous denizens of Krynn's deep oceans, resembling grotesque amalgamations of squids and other eldritch horrors. Their long, sinuous bodies are adorned with writhing tentacles, each ending in a spade-like appendage adorned with needle-like teeth and a suction mouth. The number of eyes and tentacles on an abyss lurker varies from individual to individual, adding to their eerie and unsettling appearance.

In their natural state, abyss lurkers possess translucent skin, blending seamlessly into the dark depths of the ocean. However, when hunger consumes them, their skin takes on a crimson hue, signaling their bloodthirsty nature. It is during this ravenous state that abyss lurkers become particularly aggressive, seeking out prey to sate their insatiable hunger.

Abyss lurkers hunt by ambushing unsuspecting creatures, using their stealth and aquatic prowess to surprise their victims. Once they latch onto prey with their powerful tentacles, they drain blood with their beak-like mouths, sustaining themselves while causing grievous harm to their victims. The act of feeding transforms their translucent skin into a crimson hue, marking them as formidable predators of the deep.

Few creatures dare to venture into the domain of abyss lurkers without caution, for these malevolent beings are relentless in their pursuit of sustenance. To encounter an abyss lurker is to face a nightmarish creature born from the darkest depths of the ocean, its hunger driving it to commit acts of unspeakable horror.
