Legendary Resistance (3/Day): If Valethorn fails a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead.
Magic Resistance: Valethorn has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Multiattack: Valethorn can use his Frightful Presence. He then makes three attacks: one with his bite and two with his claws.
Bite: Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit, reach 20 ft., one target. Hit: 36 (4d10 + 10) piercing damage plus 14 (4d6) poison damage.
Claw: Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 24 (4d6 + 10) slashing damage.
Tail: Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit, reach 25 ft., one target. Hit: 28 (4d8 + 10) bludgeoning damage.
Breath Weapon (Recharge 5-6): Valethorn exhales a torrent of verdant energy in a 90-foot line that is 10 feet wide. Each creature in that line must make a DC 22 Dexterity saving throw, taking 70 (20d6) force damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Additionally, the area affected by the breath weapon becomes difficult terrain for 1 minute, as the ground becomes overgrown with tangled vegetation and roots.
Frightful Presence: Each creature of Valethorn's choice that is within 120 feet of him and aware of him must succeed on a DC 22 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Valethorn can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. Valethorn regains spent legendary actions at the start of his turn.
Detect: Valethorn makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.
Wing Attack (Costs 2 Actions): Valethorn beats his wings. Each creature within 20 feet of Valethorn must succeed on a DC 22 Dexterity saving throw or take 16 (2d6 + 10) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. Valethorn can then fly up to half his flying speed.
Earthquake (Costs 3 Actions): Valethorn stomps the ground, causing a tremor. Each creature on the ground within 60 feet of Valethorn must succeed on a DC 22 Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone. In addition, the area becomes difficult terrain until cleared.
Valethorn can cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
Entangle (3/Day): Valethorn casts Entangle as a 9th-level spell.
Wall of Thorns (2/Day): Valethorn casts Wall of Thorns as a 9th-level spell.
Lair and Lair Actions
On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Valethorn takes a layer action to cause one of the following effects; Valethorn can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:
Call of the Forest: Valethorn summons 1d4 treants to aid him in battle. These treants are friendly to Valethorn and obey his commands.
Aura of Renewal: All allies within 60 feet of Valethorn regain hit points equal to 2d8 + 10.
Roots of Binding: Vines and roots burst from the ground, restraining creatures in a 30-foot radius centered on a point Valethorn can see within 120 feet. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 22 Strength saving throw or be restrained until the end of its next turn.
