Illusory appearance. The bastilisn't's head is a magical illusion, and an attack made at the head will appear to damage it normally. However, the body is only a physical disguise, and attacks made against it will seem to do much less. Piercing attacks may just go in one side and out the other, where as bludgeoning attacks may crumple the structure of the construct, causing an observable dent.
A creature may make a DC 14 Perception or Investigation check against the creature. On a success, they notice that the creature is, in fact, not a basilisk, and is merely a disguise. A magic dispelling effect on the head or serious damage to the body may reveal this much sooner.
Piloting Kobolds. There are four Kobolds piloting the disguise. They have resistance to any attack targeting them, and automatically succeed on dexterity saving throws to avoid damage from spells.
For every kobold that leaves the disguise, or is otherwise incapacitated, the speed of the disguise decreases by five feet. If all four kobolds leave the disguise, it stands entirely still, and cannot attack on its own. Reducing the disguise to zero HP will cause it to crumple apart, revealing all kobolds within.
An attack or spell that targets the mind of the disguise automatically fails.
Phony Gaze. If a creature starts its turn within 30 feet of the basilisk and the two of them can see each other, the basilisn't can force the creature to make a DC 5 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature may note that it should be turning to stone, if it is familiar with normal basilisks. No harm comes to the creature, however.
A creature that isn't surprised can avert its eyes to avoid the saving throw at the start of its turn. If it does so, it can't see the basilisn't until the start of its next turn, when it can avert its eyes again. If it looks at the basilisn't in the meantime, it must immediately make the save.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) piercing damage.
Escape. One of the kobolds inside of the basilisn't can exit the disguise, through a flap in the front, behind the disguise. The goblin will appear in front of the disguise's space.
Description
A basilisk is a multilegged, reptilian horror whose deadly gaze transforms victims into porous stone. With its strong jaws, the creature consumes this stone, which returns to organic form in its gullet.
A bastilisn't, on the other hand, is an elaborate disguise constructed by a group of kobolds to terrify travelers off its land. The head of the beast is a magical illusion built into the disguise, and the body is controlled by four kobolds. The body is built out of think hide, stitched together and died to imitate that of a real basilisk. The only intentional entrance into the disguise is a flap, hidden behind the disguise of the head.
