Shapechanger. The weretryannus can use its action to polymorph into a tyrannosaurid-humanoid hybrid or into a Medium tyrannosaurid dinosaur resembling an Eotyrannus or a Xiongguanlong, or back into its true form, which is a reptilian humanoid such as a lizardfolk or a saurianfolk. Its statistics, other than its AC, are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
Keen Sight and Smell. The weretyrannus has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight or smell.
Multiattack (Humanoid or Hybrid form only). The weretyrannus makes two attacks, one with its bite and one with claws or spear.
Bite (Hybrid or Tyrannosaurid Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d8 + 2) piercing damage. If the target is a reptilian humanoid, it must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be cursed with weretyrannus sauranthropy.
Claws (Hybrid or Tyrannosaurid Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (2d4 + 2) slashing damage.
Spear. Melee or RangedWeapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage or 6 (1d8 +2) piercing damage if used with two hands to make a melee attack.
Description
Reptilian humanoids have their own version of the lycanthropy curse, known to scholars as sauranthropy. It works the same way for them as lycanthropy does for their mammalian cousins. It is possible, though extremely difficult, for furry-folk to be inflicted with sauranthropy, or for scaly-folk to be inflicted with lycanthropy (advantage on the Constitution saving throw when the curse is trying to cross clades).
The weretyrannus is a vicious, relentless predator. In its humanoid form, it possesses heightened senses, an imperious manner, and tendency to eat raw meat (often in secret, since most saurianfolk are herbivorous). In its tyrannosaurid form, it is a fearsome predator, but its hybrid form is even more terrifying by far -- a feathered, heavily-muscled humanoid body topped with a snarling tyrannosaurid head. The weretyrannus can wield weapons in its hybrid form, but it much prefers to rend its foes to shreds with its powerful claws and teeth.
Most weretyrannuses flee civilized lands shortly after becoming afflicted. Those who resist the curse fear what may happen to their loved ones if they remain among them, while those who embrace their curse wish to avoid discovery and the consequences of their murderous acts. In the wild, weretryannuses often form flocks that include tyrannosaurids and other theropods.
