Barus & Gadael are not interested in fighting, and prefer to let "lesser beings" do it for them. Therefore, if attacked, Barus & Gadael will disengage and create distance from threats, instead instructing Rodraeth Enforcers to defend them.

Reactions

Antiquorum Shield. When a creature attempts to attack Barus & Gadael, they may use their reaction to raise an antiquorum energy shield, produced by a bracelet, to shrug off 1d6+2 physical damage.

Description

Barus & Gadael wear white robes with gold brooches.

Barus & Gadael's backstory: Born to a wealthy family in Cynnes, siblings Barus & Gadael became Talon children because of their parents' connection to Emperor Rufen at the rise of the Rodraeth Empire. However, their family's position among the Talon was low due to the scorn with which the rest of Rodraeth views desert-dwellers. After the death of their parents during an ill-fated Soma uprising a decade ago, Barus & Gadael inherited the family manse, including its trove of antiquorum artifacts. From that point on, the siblings began to pursue leadership roles in Cynnes among the Talon.

What Barus & Gadael want: Barus & Gadael do what they can to both keep powerful antiquorum artifacts out of the hands of the Soma while gaining prestige among the Talon, perhaps someday getting on a first-name basis with the Emperor himself.

What Barus & Gadael know:

  • Soma are taught to worship the Talon; antiquorum artifacts are regarded as symbols of godhood.
  • Talon claim the right to take any antiquorum artifacts not already possessed by the Talon.
  • Talon hate when anyone but Talon have access to antiquorum items, especially the Visago who are known for keeping their own antiquorum artifacts.
  • Talon tend to hate Visago because, unlike the Soma, Visago do not believe Talon are entitled to the things they take.
  • Prynu's Shop of Oddities is rumored to deal in antiquorum artifacts. If Barus & Gadael find any such artifacts, they will bring the Rodraeth Enforcers and confiscate the items.
  • After the time skip, Barus & Gadael are aware of the heist being planned on their trove. They intend to ignore any signs of the heist until the thieves reach the Ark Room, where the trap is to be sprung, calling Rodraeth Enforcers to arrest the thieves. Barus & Gadael made a deal with Raphael and promised to set him free, but after the heist is interrupted, they plan to have Raphael arrested as well and act as though there was no deal; they want Raphael to rot in prison.
