Magic Resistance. The Anointed Broodguard has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Innate Spellcasting. Their spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 18). The Anointed Broodguard can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
At will: Silent Image
At will (Anointed Form Only): Mislead and loses Anointed condition upon cast
3/day each: Darkness
1/day: Cloudkill
Reckless. At the start of their turn, the Anointed Broodguard can gain advantage on all melee weapon attack rolls it makes during that turn, but attack rolls against it have advantage until the start of their next turn.
Chameleon Skin. This creature has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to hide.
Regeneration. The Anointed Broodguard regains 10 hit points at the start of their turn if it has at least 1 hit point. If this creature takes radiant damage, this trait does not function at the start of their turn. The Anointed Broodguard is destroyed only if it starts their turn with 0 hit points and doesn't regenerate.
Fear Aura (Anointed Form Only). Any creature of the Anointed Broodguard's choice, other than a snake or yuan-ti, that starts their turn within 30 feet of this creature and can see or hear it must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened of snakes and yuan-ti. A frightened target can repeat this saving throw at the end of each of their turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a target's saving throw succeeds or the effect ends, the target is immune to this aura for the next 24 hours.
Six Heads (Anointed Form Only). This creature has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks and on saving throws against being blinded, charmed, deafened, frightened, stunned, and knocked unconscious.
Multiattack. The Anointed Brooadguard makes two claw attacks. If anointed, they may make one Flurry of Bites attack.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d6 + 7) slashing damage.
Flurry of Bites (Anointed Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft., one creature. Hit: 28 (6d6 + 7) piercing damage plus 14 (4d6) poison damage.
Blinding Speed. The Anointed Broodguard may dash as a bonus action.
Master of Shadows. When they are in an area of dim light or darkness, they can use your bonus action to blend into your surroundings to become invisible. They remain invisible until they make an attack, cast a spell, or are in an area of bright light
Poison Splash. When the Anointed Broodguard takes piercing or slashing damage, their wound spews poison. Each creature within 10 feet of the Anointed Broodguard must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned for 1 minute (save ends at end of turn).
The Anointed Broodguard has three villain actions. They can take each action once during an encounter after an enemy's turn. They can take these actions in any order but can use only one per round.
Action 1: Anointment. This creature sheds their old skin, and from the discarded husk emerges a creature of unparalleled dread. This creature becomes Anointed until they die or an action reverts them to their original form. 5 additional heads escape from its body, reaching out in an attempt to constrict those around it. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 15 ft., up to 5 Large or smaller creatures. Hit: 17 (3d6 + 7) bludgeoning damage plus 7 (2d6) acid damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 16). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained and takes 17 (3d6 + 7) bludgeoning damage plus 7 (2d6) acid damage at the start of each of their turns.
Action 2: Corrupting Gaze. The Anointed Broodguard fixes their gaze upon those nearby, filling their mind with dark visions by casting Hypnotic Pattern. Each creature must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or be susceptible to its effect.
Action 3: Horrid Wilting. The Anointed Broodguard's heads begin to move in a rhythmic pattern, weaving together dark strands of magic that converge onto a single point, casting Abi-Dalzim’s Horrid Wilting. Each creature must succeed on a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or take half damage.
Description
Compared to other members of their society, the broodguards hold a lower social status but their role is of utmost importance as they are responsible for protecting the brood. Despite their status, the broodguards remain committed to their duty, come what may.
When Zehir shut the temple walls, sealing everything and everyone inside, the broodguards remained steadfast at their posts, watching over the hatchery. As time passed, food became scarce and the broodguards resorted to cannibalism to keep their duties going. Even after the eggs had expired, the broodguards remained on guard, bound by their sense of duty.
After many years of isolation, only one broodguard was left. This survivor had mutated and become disillusioned. They had once believed themselves to be blessed by Zehir, but in reality, the dark magic of the area had transformed them into something else entirely: anointed.
