Voidborn: The astral basilisk is infused with chaotic energy from the Void, granting it resistance to psychic damage.

Astral Gaze. If a creature starts its turn within 30 feet of the basilisk and the two of them can see each other, the basilisk can force the creature to make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw if the basilisk isn't incapacitated. On a failed save, the creature magically begins to turn to stone and is restrained. It must repeat the saving throw at the end of its next turn. On a success, the effect ends. On a failure, the creature is petrified until freed by the greater restoration spell or other magic.

A creature that isn't surprised can avert its eyes to avoid the saving throw at the start of its turn. If it does so, it can't see the basilisk until the start of its next turn, when it can avert its eyes again.

If it looks at the basilisk in the meantime, it must immediately make the save. If the basilisk sees its reflection within 30 feet of it in bright light, it mistakes itself for a rival and targets itself with its gaze.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 5) piercing damage plus 10 (3d6) psychic damage.

Void Fungal Spore (Recharge 5-6): The basilisk releases a cloud of void-infused fungal spores in a 20-foot radius centered on itself. Each creature in that area must make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 18 (4d8) poison damage and is poisoned for 1 minute. While poisoned in this way, the creature is also affected by the confusion spell for the duration (no concentration required). The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself with a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the basilisk's Void Fungal Spore for the next 24 hours.

Description

A basilisk is a multilegged, reptilian horror whose deadly gaze transforms victims into porous stone. With its strong jaws, the creature consumes this stone, which returns to organic form in its gullet.

The astral basilisk is a formidable creature, its massive form measuring 15 feet in height and stretching nearly 30 feet in length. Its scaled hide shimmers with iridescent hues of purple, blue, and black, evoking the chaotic energies of the astral sea. Adorning its back are clusters of strange mushrooms, their caps pulsating with void energy, from which it releases its fungal spores.

Each eye, glowing with mesmerizing light, holds the power to petrify any creature that meets its gaze. As the basilisk moves, wisps of silvery mist coil around its form, adding to its otherworldly appearance. Despite its size, it moves with a predatory grace, each step reverberating with immense power. Overall, the astral basilisk is a titan of chaos and destruction, embodying the unpredictable nature of the astral sea.
