Description
Daggertooth Fish are the stuff of nightmares - carnivorous eating machines that can run on land as fast as they can swim in water. They range from 2 to 3' in length, with large, bulbous heads, and big, gaping maws of long needle-like teeth that cause severe wounds. Their eyes are orange, and bio-luminescent, which they use to attract prey in the murky depths of freshwater lakes and rivers, or along beaches at night.
These hunters tend to attack in packs of 4 to 10 individuals. One Daggerfish will slowly swim towards prey, lulling them into a false sense of security, and then suddenly the entire pack will swim forward at lighting speed from all sides, surrounding the target in a whirlwind of snapping teeth. It is said a school of Daggertooth Fish can reduce an ox to bones in mere minutes.
Perhaps more horrifying, the Daggertooth fish has small legs, and can hold its breath out of water for up to 15 minutes. They are known to hunt along the shores of lakes and rivers, watching for unsuspecting creatures, and then run out of the water to surprise them. Though outrunning them is difficult, for common folk it is the only real defense against an entire pack of them. If a target can keep out of their reach long enough, the Daggertooth Fish will be forced to retreat to the water before they suffocate on land.
