spellcasting. Vlaakith is a 20st-level spellcaster (spell save DC 24, +14 to hit with spell attacks). she has the following wizard spells prepared:

Cantrips (at will): blade ward, prestidigitation, ray of frost, green-flame blade

1st level (4 slots): detect magic, burning hands, shield, thunderwave

Actions

multiattack. Vlaakith makes three attacks. alternatively, she can also use 2 attacks to cast a spell of 4th level or lower.

platinum greatsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +16 to hit, reach 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: 20 (4d6 + 6) slashing damage plus 10 (3d6) psychic damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be stunned. additionally, if Vlaakith scores a critical hit against an astral body (such as a creature traveling using the astral projection spell), then the silver cord connecting them to the mortal world is severed. finally, Vlaakith can choose to expend a spell slot of 4th level or higher instead of trying to stun the target. if she does, then the attack does an additional 18 (4d8) necrotic damage, and Vlaakith gains temporary hit points equal to the damage taken.

queen's longbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, range 300/900 feet, 1 target Hit:  14 (2d8 + 5) piercing damage. then, the arrow explodes with magical force, causing the creature hit by the arrow and every other thing within 20 feet of them to make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or take 36 (6d8) force damage.

 

Reactions

parry. Vlaakith adds four to her AC against a melee attack that would hit her. to do so, she must be wielding a melee weapon and be able to see the attacker. If Vlaakith successfully blocks the attack, she can then make a melee attack against the person who just targeted her.

Legendary Actions

Vlaakith can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. Vlaakith regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

magic. Vlaakith casts a spell of 3rd level or lower.

greatsword Attack. Vlaakith makes a greatsword attack.

command troops (Costs 2 Actions).  Vlaakith shouts a command to all her troops. any githyanki within 300 feet can take an action as a reaction to her legendary action, but they must all take the same one. any githyanki that is deafened cannot act as a result of this legendary action. if Vlaakith cannot speak, then she cannot take this legendary action.

Description

Vlaakith is the queen of the Githyanki, ruling from her throne in the city of death. Every Githyanki strives to serve her. If any get too strong that they might be a threat to her, she invites them to her palace to give them the highest honor they can receive. This is a trap, however, as she feeds their souls to her phylactery and absorbs their knowledge of magic and combat. She has killed enough in this way to become more powerful than any could imagine. Her ultimate goal is to wipe out all her enemies: first the mind flayers, then the Githzerai, and finally any who challenge her rule over the multiverse after her only two real threats to power are dispatched of. She almost always is with an ancient red dragon for protection, after Tiamat promised them as servants to all the Githyanki. 

Lair and Lair Actions

Vlaakith's lair is her throne room within her palace in Tu'na'rath. it contains many guards, including a red dragon, usually. while in her palace, Vlaakith has a CR of 24

Lair Actions

On every other initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Vlaakith takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; Vlaakith can’t use the same effect twice:

  • Vlaakith creates a pillar of psionic energy within the throne room. a cylinder with a radius of 30 feet appears. every creature in the cylinder must make an intelligence saving throw. on a failure, the creature is stunned. on a success, they take 5d10 psychic damage.
  • A swarm of souls pours out of the phylactery hidden in the throne. The room suddenly becomes filled with magical darkness. this does not affect Vlaakith. this darkness cannot be dispelled or seen through. the souls disperse on the next initiative count 20. if any creature dies while the souls are present, then their corpse is possessed by one of the souls.
