Traits

Displacement (Recharges after the Gnome Imagemaker Casts an Illusion Spell of 1st Level or Higher). As a bonus action, the gnome projects an illusion that makes the gnome appear to be standing in a place a few inches from its actual location, causing any creature to have disadvantage on attack rolls against the gnome. The effect ends if the gnome takes damage, it is incapacitated, or its speed becomes 0.

Gnome Cunning. The gnome has advantage on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws against magic.

Spellcasting. The gnome is a 10th-level spellcaster. Its spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 13, +5 to hit with spell attacks). The gnome has the following wizard spells prepared:

Cantrips (at will): control flames, dancing lights, minor illusion, prestidigitation, produce flame

1st level (4 slots): charm person, color spray,* faerie fire, silent image*

2nd level (3 slots): magic mouth,* phantasmal force,* pyrotechnics, rope trick

3rd level (3 slots): hypnotic pattern,* major image*

4th level (3 slots): charm monster, hallucinatory terrain

5th level (2 slots): creation*

*Illusion spell of 1st level or higher

Actions

Illusory Bolts. The gnome launches illusory darts at up to four creatures that it can see within 60 feet of it. Each creature must succeed on a DC 13 Intelligence saving throw or take 5 (2d4) psychic damage and be pushed 5 feet in a random direction or knocked prone (the gnome's choice).

Smokepot (3/day). The gnome ignites and throws a clay pot at a point within 20 feet of it. The smokepot breaks on impact and emits a cloud of colored smoke that spreads out from that point in a 20-foot radius, moving around corners. The area of the smoke is heavily obscured. The smoke persists for 1 minute or until a strong wind disperses it.

Reactions

Illusory Self (Recharges when the Gnome Imagemaker Finishes a Short or Long Rest). When a creature the gnome can see makes an attack roll against it, it can interpose an illusory duplicate between the attacker and itself. The attack automatically misses the gnome, then the illusion dissipates.

Description

The imagemaker is the maestro of the gnomish world. Their services are in demand at every gnomish festival; their skills known far and wide, sought by humans, dwarves, and others beyond the ken of gnome society. The imagemaker is an artist in the art of illusion who can create spectacles and is capable of drawing audiences to the edge of awe and beyond with soaring images, thunderous sound effects, and realistic creations.

The imagemaker’s role in gnomish society extends far beyond their ability to tell tales and create pictures. On the battlefield, imagemakers are the primary source of the diversionary illusions that gnomish forces use so well to balance the odds against them. Since they specialize in the creation and manipulation of very realistic illusions, they can be very useful to adventuring parties-for example, by creating duplicate images of the party to distract a powerful enemy. And, of course, no gnomish ceremony would be complete without the sound and spectacle of the imagemaker‘s art.
