Traits

Immutable Form.  The Vortex Beast is immune to any spells or effects that would alter its form.

Magic Resistance.  The Vortex Beast has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Magic Weapon.  The Vortex Beast's weapon attacks are considered magical for overcoming resistances and immunities.

Actions

Multiattack.  The Vortex Beast can use its Frightful Presence, it then makes four attacks; one with its bite, one with its tail, and two with its claws

Claw.  Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target.  Hit: 16 (2d10+5) Slashing damage.

Bite.  Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target.  Hit: 18 (2d12+5) Piercing damage.

Tail.  Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target.  Hit: 14 (2d8+5) Bludgeoning damage\

Frightful Presence.  Each creature of the Vortex Beast's choice that is within 120 feet of the Vortex Beast and can see it must succeed a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute.  A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a successful save.  If a creature's saving throw is successful it is immune to the Vortex Beast's Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.

Shard Rain (Recharge 5-6).  The Vortex Beast launches metallic spikes out from its body in a 60-foot cone.  Each creature in that area must make a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw, taking 42 (12d6) Piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Description

Made up of thousands of shards of metallic spikes that magically interlock and move into the form of a large predatorial beast, long limbs with razor sharp claws powerful enough to cleave through stone, a long thin tail that cracks like a whip.

Made Monster.  Created by Mages and Artificers who meticulously write the runes into each shard and places them into the Beast's structure, after everything is in place the Vortex Beast comes to life but is difficult to control which can only be maintained by powerful mages before the Vortex Beast devolves to basic instinct of survival like a wild animal.

Being made of metal the Vortex Beast does not require organic food to survive but does require other metallic things to repair itself, so it will seek out these object to either eat then or to store in its lair for when it needs it, the damaged part of it are actually stored in the equivalent of what would be its stomach before it shoots them out in its =Shard Rain ability.
