Unbreakable. Bonescar Skeletons lose their vulnerability to bludgeoning damage and gain resistance to slashing and piercing; this resistance affects damage received from magical weapons.
No Rest for the Wicked. The first time a Bonescar Skeleton is reduced to zero hit points, roll a D6. On a roll of 4 or higher, the skeleton is instead reduced to one hit point. This effect can trigger only once per day.
Rattling Agony. The Bonescar Skeleton can make an additional melee attack on its turn.
Longsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (1d10 + 4) slashing damage.
Longbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, range 80/320 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d8 + 4) piercing damage.
Description
A Bonescar Skeleton is a more uncommon form of animated corpse, usually only created by advanced necromancers; this undead is stronger, tougher, and far more resilient than its lesser cousins.
To create this type of skeleton, a necromancer casts Animate Dead at 4th level or higher, and may, instead of raising the full complement of skeletons, opt to raise half that number (rounded down) and merge the leftover skeletons with the animated target(s), fusing the two together to create a powerful and twisted monstrosity. The skeletons chosen for augmentation must be prepared beforehand, requiring the ritualistic carving and painting of arcane designs beseeching Veronette.
Bonescar Skeletons are so named for their horrific appearance; the magical fusion process leaves their bodies covered in twisting, lumpy growths and thick plates of swollen bone that resemble bone tumors. They are particularly vicious in combat, and their aggression has led many scholars to believe that their existence is fundamentally painful – any adventurer who has met one of these creatures agrees that their destruction is a mercy.
